    Question about oats

If I wanted to plant oats How well does the ground have to be tilled and when should I plant them? Also can I just buy a 50 lb bag of horse oats and use them or is there something special that I have to get? Also how big does you oat patch have to be, to be effective?

Horse oats are usually rolled or crimped, and won't grow

You need "whole oats" You can check out the local fertilizer company (Eldorado Chemical in Terrell)
      and they should have some.

You can buy whole oats horse feed and get about 75-85% germination. I prefer to plow and drill in oats seed. You can broadcast it but I were going to broadcast something it would be wheat seed. If you do broadcast it I would do it at about 150-200 lbs pre acre. As far as size just depends on how much $ you want to spend but an acre or 2 will work.

The ground dont have to be tilled up that much at all as long as you can cover it up with a 1/4 inch of dirt so the birds dont eat it,and the best time to plant is right now.

I set up a new stand day before yesterday and moved the feeder to an area by the creek where my bnl and I found a bunch of rubs last year. I bet there were 10 or more rubs in this area.

My plan is to till in some wheat seed and see how that works. I also plan on putting in a bunch of black-eyed peas too. Hopefully I'll be able to get this all done by this weekend.

            Good question!
