    Texas Tech information/Input Needed

My daughter has been accepted to Texas Tech this year under there wildlife management program and I am very proud of her. I could use the green screen/TBH input/opinion (I know ya’ll have one) From any past raiders or current ones or parents on any of the following:

    1. She is staying on Campus and thinking about the Stangel/Murdough Dorm. it is close to class room buildings and has places to eat. She has been going to Tarrant County Collage for the past two years to do her basics, so collage life is not all new to her. Is this a good dorm or a Dump? If so why, Is there a better one?

    2. Has any one been through there Wildlife program, does any one have a preference in teachers?

Any other input good or bad would be helpful.

Stangel/Murdough is the dorm I stayed in when I was a freshman. It has the best food on campus and it is really close to all the main classroom buildings, especially the one that her wildlife classes will be in.

I am about to graduate with a BS in wildlife management. If i could do it over again, I would have got my degree in something else. Yes, its a fun degree, but jobs are very limited. I've interview for a bunch of jobs and only one has been wildlife related.

However, if she does stick with it, tell her to ask that Dr. Dabbert is her advisor. He is one of the better professors.

I think all the female dorms are now air conditioned, so that should not be an issue in deciding where to stay. I had the luxury of staying in a non-air conditioned dorm (Sneed/Bledsoe), and, although it was not all that bad, there were a few evenings where it would have been welcomed (especially from August through September).

I was in Weymoth when I was there, and that was on the other side of campus than all my classes. I agree with TxTech, Stangel/Murdough has the best food on campus. When I was up there, about 4 yrs ago, that was the second newest dorm on campus. I knew a few that stayed in them and they were nice.

I had a buddy that went through the wildlife program, I will send him an email and see if he can give me any recommendations.

        Hope this helps.

I lived in Tech Terrace while I was there, its a nice close neighborhood or was when I was there. Never lived in the dorms, but those are pretty nice ones if I remember right.

I was in Clements and also agree Stangel/Murdough had the best food and was one of the better dorms at the time.

It also seems that no matter where on campus my summer classes were, I had to walk by Stangel Beach on the way.

              Congrats to your daughter, Bowshark.

I knew there would be a Stangel Beach comment....thanks for not disappointing me Devin

The three terms (Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon) that I spent at Tech produced lots of wonderful memories and a few blank spots.

Man I lived at that place from when I was about 17 till I turned 21. That was the best place ever to drink under age. (Oh wait that was not me, it was my twin brother, just in case my dad reads this.) It is now a Freeway, nothing left of it. My Mom Worked it the Caf's all around Tech for 20 years mostly at Stangle, she says it is the best on campus. Tell here good luck and stay away from down town Lubbock will just get you trouble. Well Trouble was my middle name anyway. Tell her Congrats and good luck.

As far as Wildlife programs (and I'm about to drop the Bomb, Sorry Techies I'll take ya'll over College station and any other college hands down anytime) Kingsville has the best Wildife program, with Texas Tech right up there in a VERY close second. I have been able to meet people and work for different master's projects, hunting leases on King Ranch and surrounding Ranches, Interned on King Ranch (Twice) and already have several people putting the spurs to me (professors, not parents) to hurry up and graduate cuz "these guys need a feller like you bustin' your tail on they're Ranch". Best advice I have ever heard was...........

"Shooting them is the easy part, throwing corn/protein in a feeder is the easy fix; Growing the groceries they need to produce the results you want is the tricky part and you control only 10% of that, the other 90% is rainfall. So you better do your best with the 10% you control.

With that being said the wildlife empahsis is great but Range empahsis is WAY better.

                      Go Raiders, Go Hoggies

I had a great time in Lubbock, great school and great town.

sorry cant help on the dorm stuff I lived off campus, cant really help you much at all really unless you need a list of places to tell your daughter to stay away from

I lived in Waterford at 4th and Slide, that was the party place when I was there, always something going on, or maybe that was just my apartment?
