Idea for semi-hog resistant feed trough

I have some heavy duty pipe thats ~12" in dia. I was thinking about ripping it in half to make some feed troughs. We have too many hogs that eat up all the corn in front of our cameras. I was thinking of attaching some concrete reinforcing wire to the edges to form a lip that would make it harder for hogs to access the corn.

Here is a rough paint drawing of what I'm talking about, what do yall think?

The troughs would be staked to the ground with T-Posts to keep pigs from flipping it over.

Why would the hogs not just put their front hooves on the wire and then feed out of it? Maybe I'm missing something?
I too would love to have a way to feed the deer and not the hogs...

I use pvc pipse that have a j hook shaped end on in and I strap it to a tree up high enough that pigs cant get to it.

My idea is that if I can have the lip sticking far enough out from the troughs than some of the hogs cant get to the corn inside. My reasoning behind this is that hogs don't have as long of necks as deer and I dont believe they would be able to reach the corn unless they are able to get real close to it.

I think you would have pics of hogs climbing into the trough. And then standing in it eating til they fell out of it full as can be.

I think they'll end up bending the wire down and end up getting the corn anyways. JMO

if you beef it up with some metal plate or something, it might work. Otherwise, they will just bend the crap out of the reinforcement wire. Great design though. I hope it works out great for you!

I think the height of the trough is the most important factor. Make it as high as possible where deer can still feed from it.

Can you not build a feed pen? Maybe you just want to use the pipe up.

I think if you can build an additional angle of about 45* upward 6" off the edge of the one you have and make yours 8-10" long and reinforce it from the legs up to the two angles the hogs may not be able to bend it down. Good luck.

We built a feed pen out of the reinforcing wire we have 4 areas where the wire is only 3' tall and they deer refuse to go in the pen.

I agree that the height is the most important I was looking at ~3ft to the top of the trough. I was also planning on making a metal frame that would support the reinforcing wire

make the feeders higher off ground. seems easier.

Put the concrete wire over the top of the trough. The deer can get their nose/mouth through the squares but the hog cant stand on his back feet and reach over and into it.

Just put it about 3 or 4 feet off the ground.
