New Mathews: Monster or Monster XLR8?

how does the decreased brace height of the XLR8 affect the bow? Which would you recommend?

The decrease in brace height will do two things, one good and one bad. On the good side, you'll get a few more FPS as the arrow will stay on the string longer and give you a larger "stroke" if you will. The bad side of the longer stroke and the arrow staying on the string longer is that any bad form or torque that you exert on the bow will be magnified. Personally, I don't like a bow with less than a 7" brace height for hunting as you might have to take shots at funny angles, but to each his own. But that's the jist of brace height. Hope this helps.

      Monster LXR8

I have shot a Switch-Back for the last 3 years and always had good luck with it. But when the New Monster came out i just had to have one. It took a little getting use to but i really like it now. It is very unforgiving. You must have a GOOD FORM or all you will be doing is flinging arrows.Good luck

I have the Monster and have shot both I personally liked the Monster better and still getting 343-347, If i'm shoot my hunting arrows which is a gold tip Ultra Light Pro 400 I am bumping the mid to high 350's. Both great bows and recommend you shoot both to see which you prefer.

I can't tell a bit of difference in the shootability of either one. They are both smoking fast tack drivers.
