    Nocks cracking when shot

    Hi.
I've been practicing with my bow. The last time I noticed that after less than a dozen shots with an arrow, there would be a small hairline crack down the center of the nock.
I shot again today, and now I've got 4 nocks that are cracked down the center.

For reference, I've used GT nocks...two different colors...both crack.
I've shot at a different point in my target (Blob) with each arrow, so there's no way the arrows can be hitting each other. I've only got a peep sight on my string, and I haven't made any changes to my bow in the two years I've had it, and this problem is just starting. I shoot a switchback xt. It "seems" that they start cracking when I move back to 40 yds.

Any ideas why this may be happening???

    Thanks for any help.

Are you shooting gold tip arrows, if so I have had the same thing happen to me on new pack of gold tip arrows. A buddy of mine had the same problem with gold tips as well. I have shot gold tips for around 6 or 7 years and just recently had this problem.

I suggest to check "EACH" of your arrows (shaft), bend them, listen closely for creekin sound.(Trash the arrow if you hear these sound) Are your arrow been stored in the heat for long period of times? if so, I suggest to watch them very closely, or better yet, buy some new arrow. Also, check your bow and your accessories. arrow hitting bottom of sight guard, release heads damaged,(if you use one) I would also suggest to install a string loop for release use. Good luck and be safe, I hope I could be of any help.

I was practicing and noticed a few of my Gold Tip nocks cracked as well. I inspected my arrows and they are all fine. The arrows are not in the heat for long times (except for 3D shoots and the occasional hog hunt).

Luckily for me, I have more GT nocks so I replaced the ones that are cracked and continued on.

Checked my gold tips. I have a couple dozen. All look good. Got over 1000 shots on all of them. Closer to 2000 on a half dozen I really like for target shooting.

The nocks themselves are cracking, or the nock-end of the arrow shaft?

If it's the nocks, I'm going to guess you got a 'bad' batch somehow and the plastic was not mixed/ extruded properly. Are they too tight or loose on the serving? I'd 1st replace them with new nocks.

There should be a corresponding Easton plastic nock to fit your Goldtips at the archery shop.

I used to have problems with the nock ends of my shafts occassionally cracking (CarbonTech Rhinos) and I switched to the Easton uni-bushings and the tiny nock that fits inside of the aluminum insert, and it has not happened since.

            Hope that helps.

It's the nocks. The arrows are fine. I just replace the nocks and keep shooting.

If you count out in the heat in 3D tournaments and when I practice, then yes. Otherwise they are stored in an arrow case inside the house with my bow.

change them and keep some spares, and all of the nocks are not even from the same plastic from gold tip.... its a cheap fix but expensive if you dont
