A nonirrigated food plot in South or West Texas is a roll of the dice anytime. They grow wheat and oats in both, but they will be marginal in a lot of years.

Winter peas, wheat, oats, triticale, clover...you name it. Doesn't matter if it there is not any rain and for the last several years the winters have been very dry.

If you can irrigate, go with some crimson clover.

We always plant rye grass and oats. Its a roll of the dice but if you can get a few rains on them, they will grow.
