I hunted Washington State - Olympic Mountains using a mountain bike. Course I was slinging a .270 Weatherby Magnum across my back with a scope and a back pack full of topo charts, compass and survival rations.

The challenge, is hauling your critter out without using a wagon. I drove a 4x4 Dodge Durango during these days and stuffing the bike and gear inside that darn SUV was very limited for bike gear. So knocking down a critter required at least 2 trips minimum to pack out. One trip to lighten the bike load with the 2nd trip to pack out the critter....using the bike as a 2 wheeled dolly to do so.

It's a fun way to hunt but it's also a good way to get yourself way up inside to a point, if you do need emergency help, and you opted to hunt alone and encountered a broken leg or other, better hope you have enough rations to survive till help arrives.

Following this thread closely. I'm in the market for a bike to use on public land in east tx. Almost had one at the local goodwill store for $10.00 but was about 1 minute too late! I have a game cart and need ideas on how to attach it to the bike. Guess I need the bike first to be able to come up with something!

[ATTACH] I saw one of these at the coast cruisin through the soft sand. They are called fat bikes. Looks like the big foot of the bicycle world. The tires looked like they were 5" wide.

I'd find a tow-behind kiddie trailer on Craigslist and strip off all the nylon for a seat. Make a thin plywood base, and either PVC or thin wall electrical conduit if you need a frame to hold things in. The trailer will have the hitch to your bike seat.

I got a mongoose dual suspension 21 speed and rhino lined it. Put a gun/bow rack on the front. Put 90'/, slime and 10'/, air in tires. Works awesome.

I saw these when i was working in anchorage as well. My guess is that snow and sand are there only real applications. Anywhere else, you are just adding unnecessary friction.

If you have to ride one in bad mud, spray the tires and rims with Pam cooking spray or silicone spray to keep it from gunking up the wheels.

Was at Academy today and noticed they had some all terrain bikes for about $89. Think they will do the job??

This is something I might have to investigate.

Might just work in the areas I like to gun hunt.
