While it is true that we are paying for welfare queens, it is that way whether they ban anything in the military or not. People on welfare probably have a higher than average percentage of drug addiction, smoking, obesity (figure that one out on welfare), teen pregnancy, alcoholism, suicide, sexually transmitted diseases, lower life expectancy, criminal record, etc

I figured it would be squashed, but the examples you mentioned above are the reasons why I started the discussion. These poeple are never expected to hold to a higher standard or any standard for that matter. I just think that the fact someone would suggest banning smoking(tobacco use) in the military with out also mentioning doing the same thing for Welfare recipients is BS

I understand completely but if we held them to a higher standard, then most wouldn't be on welfare in the first place.

I just don't judge anything we do by the sponges of our society. It just doesn't seem right to answer something we don't like with, "Well, the people on welfare do it".

I am against the tobacco ban (and I don't use any of it) because it is stupid in my opinion. The intent is great for health reasons but if that is all that someone fighting for our country needs to get through his/her service, then go for it. I am not against the ban because of slugs that don't follow the same rules as I do. My contempt for many of them is the same whether the military bans smoking or not. The fact that this suggested ban was quickly thrown out doesn't change that and I don't see one crossing into the other.
