Trading in a Rifle/Cash for Clunkers

Has anyone traded in a rifle at Gander Mountain. If so, do they treat you fairly?

They have a shot gun I want and I have a Remington 700 Mountain Rifle 7mm-o8. I bought it for my son and he never has gotten into hunting with me It's collecting dust so I thought I'd trade it in?

What ya want for it, you will get more for it selling it outright.

I guess that's part of the problem Not trying to sound ignorant (but I will anyway), I'm not sure what it's worth. It just under 3 years old and I've got maybe $750 into it.

That's why I was wondering if Gander Mountain was honest about these things.

see what they are going for on gun broker then go from there. i would place an add on the classifieds, you would do much better than trading it in.

Sell it outright. GM will take book value for the gun then cut 30% off the top. That's how they explained it to me. You would be far better off just putting the shotgun on layaway then once the Remington is sold go back and get the shotgun out of layaway.

But, you are also probably better off buying your shotgun elsewhere. I like GM, but their gun prices are out of line with reality. You can go elsewhere and find the same gun cheaper.

Most places will cut you pretty hard on it when trading it, then GM marks them way up. Which shotgun you wanting?

At the prices they charge for their new guns, I would suspect they would rip you off on a trade in as well.

no sense for them to take a trade they won't make money on. they are a business period and in business to make money not trade a gun for a loss to sell one for very little margin.

I was at GM three weeks ago and they gave a guy $700 for a kimber I know was worth $1200 and it was brand new. I couldn't get to cash quick enough to talk the guy out of it. This week its in there for $1059.

sell it privately. If you could chose to sell a car privately or trade it in you'd do the private deal.
