I use to have 2000 4x4 2500 with the 6.0 in it. Used it to haul metal building supplies and pipe 5 days a week. Sold it with over 100000. never had one issue. Got 19-17 on the hwy unloaded,, my boss/dad was a nazi on mileage and gas reciepes so I now for a fact thats what i got, i don't remeber what rear end it had ... Hell of a truck, but it was the base model and the seats suxed.

Everybody is definitely right about the gas mileage. I have a 2006 2500 HD 4x4 and it does love it some gas. All said though, I wouldn't trade it.

I have a 2007 1/2 ton z71 with a 6.0 and i am very pleased with it so far. I get about 17-20 hwy depending on how I drive, so most of the time I get 17. Plenty of power for a 1/2 ton pick up!

Well, they owner would have to come down in price for the 2500 with the 6.0L.

            I am also considering <gulp> a Jeep <gulp>.

All the mileage numbers you guys are listing and complaining about are better then the 12mph that my landcruiser use to suck down with it's 19 gal tank. I was happy to see the tripometer turn over 300.

With 185k, you can pretty much figure in 2500-3000$ in the next 40,000 miles for a transmision. But the motor will just keep on pullin.

Thanks Dale....comments like yours are what I am looking out for. That is how I feel about Dodge transmissions...and why I prefer manual transmissions. Thanks bud. You are always the straight shooter.

Great engine. Mine is an '01 2500HD 4X4 with the 6.0L......it just hit 90k miles and so far so good. I cant say too much about the gas mileage though, the other guys say they are getting up to 16mpg. I am getting 11mpg in the city and 12-13 on the highway. Thats probably due to the power chip, headers, cam, roller rockers, Flow master 3" exhaust, ect, ect ,ect....I will not complain about the 360hp though!

Like others said, I would worry about the condition of the supension, body and tranny.....the engine (with standard maintenence) should outlast these.

                      Good luck!
