Need help on a bug or spider bite

My wife got bit by something this morning (no dirty jokes here); she has a red rash about the size of a silver dollar on her arm with an obvious small bite area in it. It doesn't itch, she said it feels like it's bruised but it's definitely bothering her.

She was jokking (sorry her lingo - combo of walking and jogging) this morning when she felt something fall out of a tree and land on her head (maybe totally unrelated - she thought it may have been a spider...). Anyway I'm wondering if we need to go to the doc's office or not. Our big concern coming from Southern Illinois is Lyme's disease; not sure how prevalent it is in Texas.

    Any insight would be appreciated.

Sure sounds like a spider bite to me. If I were you, I'd contact my Doctor, or if you don't have one, then I'd probably go to an emergency room somewhere. It could be that a simple dose of Benedryl will fix it up, but a brown recluse or black widow spider bite can get nasty. Google them both and have a look. Those are the only two poisionous spiders we have here in Texas. It could also be some insect bite like a "blister bug". If it has clear blisters in the wound, that's a good possibility. But you probably should get a professional opinion.

I would keep an eye on it........ sounds like early symptoms of a Brown Recluse bite. Watch for a bullseye look (red outside with a white center)

I forgot to mention that whenever she got bit there was no pain at all. I've lived around poisonous spiders and was under the impression when the darn things bite you it hurts like heck...

You won't fill the recluse when it bites. Keep an eye on it. Prayers sent.

She needs to see a doctor and be checked for STAPH. Many people mistake staph for spider bites.

Rather be safe than sorry. I'd get her to the Dr. ASAP.

On the flip side many spiders carry staph, take her to the doc. last year during bow season I was bit, and I hunted three days before going to the doc. It was a recluse, and I had a staph infection,

Lots of good advice here. Let us know what the doc says. Take care...

                              bite

Take a deep breath. First, local reactions to any protein show up quickly. Usually responds to benadryl 50 to 100 mg. every 6 hours for the first day. Staphylococcus is a bacteria. This does not show up until 24-36 hours, though you can be exposed with any bite. Initial treatment is ice and benadryl. If there is spread then consider a medical appointment.
