Deer per acre, (or really how many acres does it take to have one deer, 1 deer per 12 acres is ideal in our area, other areas could be different).
Cool! Thanks for that info. I'm planning on putting out protein feeders soon and wasn't sure how many. We have about 430 acres so I guess 2!
The biologist figures we have about 100 deer, but they range over all the adjoining properties, so that's probably 1000 acres which puts it about 10 acres per deer. Good stuff!

As for the paper, it might be better to take the statewide view.
TXPWD will probably give you some numbers if you call them.

I'm spending $1200/year on my 110 acre portion of a 1500 acre lease for corn, protein, and milo. Going price last week was 5.50 for corn, 7.50 for antlermax and 7.85 for milo.(all 50lb bags). total bill $100 and change. I hate to think about gasoline. 500mi round trip!!!!
Last spring my wife made a trip with me. When we pulled up to the feed store she started staring at the sign outside like a week old Angus calf looking at a new gate. I ask her what’s wrong. She asks if this is a feed store.
In a very sarcastic tone (her opinion) I reply that “hell yes dear, a structure surrounded by hay bales, animal feed, fertilizer, fencing supplies, etc is commonly called a “feed store” in our great state of Texas.”
“Is it for sale?”, she replies.
“Well hell, I don’t think so honey and what difference does it make”, I politely (my opinion) answer.
In a very rude manner, (also my opinion) she says, “After writing checks for the last few years to pay the credit card bills, I thought we were making payments on the **** place!!!!!”

LOL, cilob. I think my wife thinks that most of the feed I buy is for the Junco and that I get reimbursed. I have no idea how she came to that conclusion. Well, I don't buy any for the Junco, but if that's what she wants to think, so be it. LOL When she asks questions like that, I just act like I didn't hear her. It's a talent that I've honed to a fine art over our 33 year marriage. I like to call it "background noise". I made the mistake of telling my SNL that after so many years, a lot of what his wife says will just become "background noise". My wife heard me say it and I got in trouble. Of course, the gripping about my teaching him bad lessons was just "background noise". LOL

If my wife reads this, I may not make my 33'rd anniversary in May. Maybe someone will post something about high fences and this thread will disappear.
