weedeater with a brush cutting blade

Has anyone ever used a weedeater with the skihl saw type of blade. They say they work great for sapplings bushes. The website recommends a bicycle handle with double strap for your weedeater. Any recommendations. I have a FS 80 Stihl weedeater.

I have done it lots of times. It works great. You can even cut some pretty nice size trees down with it. I have figured out the best way to do it is get the blade going full speed then just swipe it thru whatever you want to cut down. It knocks it right down.

I used one for cedar but it does get dull rather quick. Rotag told me to get a carbide saw blade and cut the center hole to fit the weedeater and I would be much happier. I have a comerical Stihl with the handlebars and neck strap and I still bogged it down somwtimes.

        handle bars

so do both of yall have the handle bars and straps. Also the carbide blade, would that be a regular Lowes blade cut to fit.

They work great as described above, but if you are going to use it a lot on Yaupon and Ceder...spend the money and get the attachment for a Dremel to resharpen them...these types of wood dull them rather quickly.

All I have is the handle bar I dont have the straps. I have never used a carbide blade but I do agree the blade can get rather dull.

I used to use a regular ol' 7 1/4" circular saw blade, carbide tipped....if it bites too much for whatever you are cutting...put it on backwards...20/24 tooth work best..

one person recommended the 80 tooth blade vs the 20 tooth. It will be mainly used for mesquite bushes and new growth.

hmm...I have not tried to use one of these in years...loppers, bow saw and my 024 have worked perfect....though the weed eater would give reach without needing a ladder....hmmmmm

I have one that came with a brush cutter attatchment. It's kind of triangle shaped and does a far job on brush and small trees. I would say that it blugens the brush not really cut it, but it works.

i have used the saw blade type and dont much care for it, it can and will get away from you if your not careful. The best one I have used for small brush, cat tails and stuff like that is a 3 blade design. Can be found at Lowes and Home Depot and is also the blade design that comes with the brush cutter attachment for weed eaters. its alot stronger than the circular saw blade and wont hang in a tree nearly as bad.

                          3 blade

doesnt the 3 blade just hit the sapplings and not cut through them. I could see how it would be great for anything under 1/2 inch diameter but not for much more. I am actually looking for something to cut small diameters, brush, and also up to 1".
