    First "real" pig hunt

Well I went for my first real pig hunt since moving to Texas, I say real cause I went out a couple of months ago while here for the holidays but it was just a quick walk around the lease as we were short on daylighht. Sat 2.5 hours in a tri-pod stand 100 yards from a corn feeder waiting with no luck. Loved every minute of it! A few notes taken.

    1. Bring deet next time! Skeeters came out right around sunset.

    2. Bring a book next time, while I enjoyed my time in the stand I found myself passing the time by texting the ole lady and a budy and trying to record the pretty sounds of a songbird with the voice memo feature on the phone.

    3. Bring a few short ropes to haul pack and muzzle loader up into the stand.

4.Go a little lighter next time, came back with two bottles of water a can of soda and I didn't need the whole can of Pyrodex just a few speed loaders.

All in all I really enjoyed my time in the woods which is what it is all about.

Another note, have my good flashlight on my hip for the walk back to the truck. It was in the pack but not at hand for the white tail that made a stage right exit while walking back to the trucks.

Didn't need it but hate the thought that I might have needed some toilet paper. Will definently be in the pack next time.

                1) Thermacel works great.
                2) A book puts me to sleep then I would fall out of the tripod.
                3) Ropes are always good to have.
                4) I like having extra water just in case you need it. Its better to have to much then not enough stuff in the backpack. Always take my cough silencer and it works great. I also jew gum while I sit, helps with coughing.
                5) Make sure you play the wind with the hogs because they do.

Right now the load I have working best for me is 110 grains of Pyrodex and a 240 grain Hornady XTP I am shooting a CVA Optima Pro. I say right now because I am in the process of figuring out which shoots best, I am shooting a 6 inch group at 100 yards which needs to be tightened up.

As far as playing the wind, today one of my chores is to look up a home brew for scent killer and wash all my hunting clothes with baking soda then seal them up in trash bags.

It always burns my butt to see guys who can run out of the truck into the stand with just their bow. I never found myself without an overloaded fanny pack....and most of the time I was carrying about 25lbs of corn in an old cat litter container. By the time I get to the stand I am dripping!!!
