    PSE Kingfisher recurve??

    Hey guys,

Having never done any bowfishing I want to give it a try this next spring. I was looking at the PSE Kingfisher recurve kit. Look like it would do the job. Just curious if any of you guys shoot this bow? Just can't make myself spend $450 on one of those nice bowfishing bows to shoot carp and gar!

The Kingfisher bow kit comes complete with a front mount drum and 80 lb test line, 2 bow fishing arrows with AMS Safety-Slide kits installed and a Cajun Roller Rest for $139.00. What you guys think? Anyone got one? Like it? hate it?

I also have the choice of, 40, 45, 50lb pull.... I was thinking 45 ? I will do some Talipia .... but mostly gar and carp.

Thanks again, and btw... this is the coolest discussion group on the web! Thanks to the host.

    Link to that bow:
THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS... Thanks to PSE’s newly-designed riser geometry, the Shootdown Pro deftly exceeds the high performance, repeatability, and holding standards that target shooters need to compete at a high level, while also delivering the speed and comfort bowhunters need to get the job done on the hunt. That set up will work. Personally I would get rid of the drum and replace it with an AMS Pro Retriver reel. As for draw weight, for 99% of the fish you will shoot........ 35-40 lbs will be more than enough. I only have one rig set up over 40# and that is strictly my big fish rig.

The 50lb. kingfisher bow is what I have. The only issue I am having right now is that one of my limbs has warped horribly so I'll have to send it back for replacement. Other than that I have killed gar up to 4ft and tons of carp and tilapia. I don't doubt that it could be effective on much larger fish, I just have not encountered any yet. I love the look and feel of this bow but my next bow will be a hydrostrike or barracuda. I say shoot what you want to afford and once you get hooked(because it will happen) buy a nicer rig. That way you will always have a back-up in case one of your bows craps out on you.

My brother bought one this spring. He wanted to try shooting traditional for a change. I tried the bow myself, I didn't like it. Now that's not to say it's not a good fishing bow. I found it heavy for a recurve and loud. My brother is back to shooting his Switchback again.

I don't think you can go wrong with it. If you can buy just the bow, take DJ's advice and spend the leftover cash on a AMS...the drum reel leaves alot to be desired. I had a PSE Coyote, which is very similar. Was bow rich and money poor so I sold it to a buddy, he loves it. As for draw weight, 40-45 your pick. My main bow, which has killed ALOT of fish, is a 45# Bear I bought new back in 85 or so. The heavier bows will really drive that heavy fish arrow deep into the muck when you miss or even if you hit a fish. Good luck, it is ALOT of fun!!!

The kingfisher is strictly a bowfishing bow.....Low Brace height on it makes it slaphappy when its not shooting a 1500grain arrow. I had one and loved it. 50# with a AMS retreiver reel, Yellow Jacket Shafts with Pro Points or Gator Grapples. I have shot 6 ft gar with this bow as well as 40+ lbs. carp and buffalo. No issues with penetration on my part. Put you some no gloves on it and there is a rest muzzy makes called the fish hook that looks real cool and seems extremely funcitonal. I shot an old Brass roller rest. You cant go wrong with this bow i used it on aerial assaults off of cliffs and wading in the rivers. Of course i am 6' 5" so it wasnt too long for me.

the kingfisher as well as the silverhawk have problems over time of the limbs drooping and the poundage being cut in half. if it were me i would just buy a bare bow and put either a ams or muzzy type reel on it. and yes the fishhook is the best rest for a beginner. i would check out the ams fish hawk its around 250 dollars and its what i use. i used it to take the gator gar in my avatar along with 1000's of other fish. pm me if you need any more info. you can also visit backwaterbowfishing.com or you can get info and used bows from bowfishingcountry.com

The PSE Kingfisher is what it is, a bowfishing rig. As the others above have said, go the extra cash and get a retriever reel for it, they are safe and work great. If you check with the dealer there is a kit version that comes with the retriever reel. Yes there is an issue with limbs sometimes but we never had a problem getting replacement limbs. In fact PRSR always kept several extra sets so that there was no down time for the customer.
