Be careful out there while wading(sad story)

Man i hate to hear these stories After I wade alot of times i wash my legs and hands off with pure bleach...let soak for a few minutes then wash off with water. Dont know if it helps but i feel better if i do this. Be careful while wading out there.

Makes you wonder. I always have cuts and scrapes on my legs from playing softball. It's almost not worth me going.
      Scary stuff!

That is terrible! If I have cuts or scrapes I clean them with Hydrogen Peroxide when I get back to the boat.

Terrible, prayers up for his family. It was much more scary to me until they said that his previous Hepatitis C diagnosis greatly contributed to the fatal onslaught of the bacterial infection. All you surf fishermen and beach visitors take precautions.

Such infections, often mild, can become life-threatening for people with underlying medical conditions such as diabetes or hepatitis. Shurley suffered from hepatitis C.

I know a guy who lost his leg to this years back. Within 5 days of wade fishing around Rockport his leg was amputated all because he had a small sore on his leg. He used to wade fish alot, now he only fishes freshwater. Scary stuff!

Being a diabetic this is one of the reasons that I hardly wade or even fish in the summer very much anymore. Not to many things scare me but this bacteria does. I have a soon to be 13 year old daughter that depends on me. I know that it has always been there and I wadefished for years without ever being affected but as we get older our priorities change. Just be careful out there ladies and gentlemen especially if you have a supressed immune system.

And I thought stingrays were my biggest concern while wading. Man that sucks.

I dislike some journalists that put in there at the last line:

"Shurley was a sales manager at Gyro Chemical and Equipment Company in Deer Park, which specializes in industrial cleaning
                      supplies"
Like it could have been prevented because he worked for a cleaning supplies company. Good grief. The editor missed this one by a long shot. They could've left the "specializes" part out, I think...

Prayers for his family though. Man alive... and to think all the wading my dad and I have done in Lake Buchanon. Scary stuff.

This kind of stuff scares the crap out of me!

Very. very Sad. Prayers out to a fellow fisherman and his family for just doing what he liked.

                        RIP.

Yikes, I hope this bacteria is not in fresh water also.

It wasn't the stingray that put McBride in the hospital it was this bacteria in the water where he was hit that did it. The stingray wound was just the delivery point.

Sad to hear, just another reason why need a good dose of rain to flush the bays good
