    DIY walk in cooler info

    Those of you who have or are thinking of making a walk in cooler should check this out. It attaches to a window unit AC and allows it to cool down to 33 degrees.

    I know there are ways to rewire/hack an AC to make it work for a walk in but this just attaches with one piece of aluminum foil!

    It costs 299, and will attach to any AC that has a plastic temp probe.

    Thought yall might want to check it out.



    It looks pretty simple, and there is a video of the guy hooking it up. It takes him just over 3 minutes and he is explaining how to do it along the way.

      That is a neat idea. Looks like all it does is trick the temp sensor so it keeps running. It has other features if you were using it day in and day out for a business. For a week at the deer lease in warm weather, couldn't you have just run the temp sensor outside before putting in the expanding foam? Would save $300.

        yeah, it's probably just a little heater wire near the thermostat that has a base offset with the controller to warm the thermostat in the ac against that offset....hmm.....in this heat, just relocate the thermostat outside.... ;D

                I dont know about just running the thermostat out side. I've seen threads on here about having to rewire parts of the AC. Dont really remember what all was involved but it wasnt that simple.
                An AC unit will only cool down to like 65 degrees unless you rewire something or buy an aftermarket controller like this one.

                I just saw it and thought it was cool.

                  Running the thermostat outside will not work.I use an electronic temp. control on mine that cost less than a $100.My box stays between 32 to 40 degrees on the hottest days.I built my cooler about 7 years ago,never had a problem.But you do have to rewire unit.

                    We did this with a electrical timer that the heating pad plugs into and a heating pad wrapped around the thermostat. Just have the heating pad on the timer come on and off every 30 minutes so it wouldn't freeze up.

                      I wonder if it could be as simple as inserting a resistor of x value inline with the temp sensor, throw it off a bit

                        CMU and spray in foam?
                        wood frame?
                        regular insulated metal door?

                            I used a 2x4 frame,1/2 plywood on both sides,sandwiched styrofoam sheets between.Got door from junk pile of local refrigeration guy,could use door off of regular refrigerator.
