    Is it Just me??

Is it me or is starting out shooting difficult...I'm nails at about 15 yards but when I back to about twenty i seem to not get them as close together...and at 30 I just feel like I'm all over...at first I thought it was not sited in...but at 15 I hit a tad bit high...so that means at 20 i should be right on...and then at 30 I'll aim and it seems to be in the right location, but then the next shot is either high..low or a little left.....I guess its just all about getting steady.....practice practice practice i suppose...

make sure your bow is properly tuned, if not, you will be off at longer distances

Squash, are you comfortable shooting your setup? Sometimes it doesnt get noticed until the farther shots. The best way I could explain it for me is as I get to full draw...do all the muscles feel locked in and rested and you arent trying to push the bow one way or another? In other words...when you release do you let go of the string the bow settles into position after the shot? You want to have all the muscles balanced if that makes any sense at all and not be trying to guide the pin to the spot as you release. Once I figured that out my gorups got better. Sounds like you are getting it down though...keep at it. Theres a TON of great people on here that can give you great information. You said it best when you said "practice practice practice".

I am trying to use a recurve and trust me...there aint a squirrel alive thats safe...when I am aiming at the target of course!

When he said tuned...he means are your cams in time, rest in the right spot. Nocking place in the right spot. Arrows the right spline. Alot of this isnt crucial (think of indians and longbows) but if everything is setup right it can take alot of the frustration out of getting bad groups far off even if you pins is in the right spot every time.

any chance you can give us the details of your setup?

oh ok..yeah it should be in tuned...i just bought it last friday....had it all set up in the shop professionally....I think its just a matter of me getting used to it and getting everything steady....I'm guessing just the slightest flench the further away the more drastic it is going to make on the path of the arrow...

Where did you have it set up? At a pro shop or a big box store?

I suggest making some 3" targets and shoot those at only 20 yards. Keep shooting those 3" inch dots until you can hit 5 for 5. Then I would move down to a 1.5" dot. From there I would shoot my heart out until I could hit 5/5. Then begin to move back. This could take a few weeks to do. But with good practice, and I mean quality practice, not just flinging arrows, you should be able to do this before you know it.

Then you'll be flinging them back from 50.

This is why I like practicing backwards. I shoot one at 20 just to confirm my sight hasn't been bumped. Then I back up and shoot. By the time I get to 25 yards I am popping those dots like clockwork

                    x2

There are a bunch of guys (not me ) on here that can pick up on problems if you give them some more info. ie. What is the draw length, pounds, arrow spine and length.

You might also go to a pro shop and get a lesson or two. If you bought it at a pro shop they will usually get you headed down the right road on your form for free. Another reason to support the local guys.

Good luck and keep the questions coming. There are a bunch of knowledgable folks here.

Tell us everything you can about the bow..

It may be something as simple as haveing the wrong spine arrows.

But could be timing, center shot, etc. etc.

Just because the shop set it up doesnt mean it is tuned perfectly, Try paper tuning and practice on your form, same thing every time and do not move until the arrow is in the target. Aim at dime sized spots and see if that helps. Aim small miss small. A bigger circle to aim at gives more margin of error, try centering your pin in the targets circle and let the pin just roll around and make your release. Trying to "push" the pin up to the target can cause target panic. I'm by far not an expert but this helps me alot.

yeah I think the bow is fine and what not.... It's an 09 Diamond Rock set at 28 inch draw with some ics hunter arrows.... I think its just me and my newness to the sport....also I've got a octane Hostage rest...but I'm having a lot of contact with the fletching on the brush parts of the rest...this isn't suppose to happen from what I've read it's suppose to be made to wear there is almost perfect clearance...I've also noticed that within less than a week one of the brushes has significant wear on it...

This could be the whole problem but if so........... something in your set up is not right.

Sounds like a trip to a DIFFERENT SHOPmay be in your near future.

have you adjusted the nock so the cock and hen vane don't hit the brushes on your rest?
this would make sense why you have some shots hit dead on and some that are off a bit.
