    Fletching

Is Fletching your own arrows better than buying factory fletched arrows?

I dont see a real price savings, by the time you buy glue, a fletcher, shafts, and vanes you spend close to the same amount.

For me, its custom building to get what you want and a huge convenience when You have to refletch

quite a few stock arrows are fletched offset instead of helical. that will give you less spin. i fletch my own cause i want to add my own fade crest and fletch color of my choice. and gives you a bit of pride saying i did them myself.

I think once you shoot broadheads and start shaving some of those fletchings off of your arrows with good groups its easier just to fletch some at home than having a couple of "down" arrows until you get them done, plus you can vary the color scheme on your arrows with countless combos.

I buy vanes $10.00 per 100, superglue $2.00 jig $46.00. I bought for $22.00. It will save you in the long run.

They don't make a factory arrow with 3" AAE vanes, which bought me some speed, plus I want white cresting on my shaft.

I like the ability to redo the vanes when they get ripped off in wild colors

Unless you WANT something special, factory fletched arrows will do just fine. Fletching your own is just a way to customize arrows to your personal liking or to try something different. To me, it is relaxing to do my own fletching. Kind of like "my time".

I do it because I use different fletching for different things. I use straight 2" feathers for 3-D, I use right helical 4" feathers for indoor and I use right helical 2" blazers for hunting. Plus I like building my own arrows.

I got started refletching when I was using a WB rest. That thing eats vanes for breakfast, lunch and dinner! It's just quicker and cheaper to redo them yourself than taking them to the proshop. Now I'm shooting a dropaway, but my nephew keeps ripping vanes off so I redo his and the ones of mine that get tagged when shooting groups.
