    Buck chasin'

I saw something this past week in S Texas that I never thought I'd ever see. If I didn't have a witness to it, I wouldn't even mention it. I (we) saw a nice (8 pt.) buck chasing a doe that was apparently in heat. He could have cared less that we were there. Unlike the other big bucks we saw that immediately vanished in the thick brush when they saw us, this one seemingly ignored us and focused on the doe. Only when she went into the brush did he disappear right behind her. Has anyone else ever seen this kind of activity at this time of year?

I personally haven't seen rutting activity this late. I have, however, hunted on a ranch down south where the buck-doe ratio was so out of whack that a lot of fawn still had spots in late Nov. Thus indicating a long, late rut.

Maybe the "doe" was really a buck that had dropped it's antlers already, and the other buck was ummmm...well, you know...

Possibly I guess, but it was a much smaller bodied deer and the buck was doing the nose in the air, lip curl act. I've never seen them do that with another buck AND most bucks we saw had both antlers yet.

That really doesn't mean anything. Just ask Larry and X-Spot.

Viagra has made it into the deer population.

I thought I saw a buck when I went fishing two weekends ago chasing a smaller bodied deer as well...Fishing on the King Ranch Shoreline and we had a real nice buck come out with another buck and some does and that big buck kept acting like he was still in the rut chasing a younger doe around...

During Bownanza weekend, a couple of friends of mine went to their lease between Brady and SanSaba. They witnessed four bucks dogging the same doe. Said they were running her all over the place.

I posted on a thread a couple weeks back that I seen a buck chaing a doe. Thought it seemed way late. But I guess mother nature was in fulleffect.

We had 2 bucks locked up from fighting the first weekend of March last year down in Mexico. One was dead but the cowboys were able to free the remaining one alive. I guess it's possible there might be a few fawns come in this late.

Judy said she had the same thing a few weeks back at Whodathunkit. She said there was no doubt the doe was in heat the way she held her tail and moved and there were two bucks running her hard.

I guess it could be does that did not bread during the rut for some reason.
