    Skull whitening solutions

I am looking to whiten some whitetail jaw bones for an aging class that I am going to take. They are already free of any tissue. I know that bleach and peroxide are both popular for whitening bone, but am not familiar with the recommended strength of the solutions or the amount of time that the skull/bone should be left to soak. Any experts that have some advise???

I can't remember the name of this stuff but it's A paste bleach used to bleach hair. You can get it from any beauty supply shop. The stuff is pretty cheap and it does A good job. The place I got it from knew what I was talking about right away. They said they sell it to taxidermist all the time. LOL.

30 or 40% peroxide from beauty supply places. The cream will probaly work for you since you're only doing jaw, but I prefer the liquid for skulls. Make sure you keep it off the teeth or it will bleach them too making them less desireable for using a tooth wear/aging tools. If you go liquid route, put vaseline over teeth to keep from bleaching.

Why are you wanting to whitenen the jaws? It's going to be harder to age them if they are whitenened.

TT, I don't think that whitening jaw bones is classified under taxidermy. However, I will answer........I say what Buckwild said.
