    is the bow deadly

my son shoots an old whitetail legend bear bow with modern tru glo sights and with a wb shoots easton gamegetters 2216 alum. with 125gr. thunderheads and draw # is 55. pins set at 10-20-30 yards

is that enough to kill a deer out to 30 yards, and have a nice solid hit

I would limit the shots to 20 yards. I shot the whitetail bear bow for several years and recovered every deer i shot (7ish). It sounds like he is set up witha bulletproof combination. Def limit the shots to 20 though. JMHO.

have him aim at the bottom of the vitals...if the deer ducks, he will be good and if the deer doesn't he'll hit where he's aiming...still in the vitals.

          Why??
I shot nearly same set up years ago, except I was only pullin 52lbs. I shot deer out to 25 yds with no problem. Only reason I never shot anything over 25 was because they were always 25 or closer.
I say if he hits consistently at 30, why not. It will be a killin shot if he can make the mark.

whatever the bow lacks in speed its still going to pack a pretty good punch of K/E with the wt of the Easton and the 125gr thunderheads

I tell ya that bow is going to be quit because of the softer cams and I bet he has less trouble with string jump than a lot of people with the so called super bows..

Some of the most well known and famous bow hunters in the world only shoot 55#...... so yeah it should get the job done.

Practice at 30yds makes 20,15 and 10 ten yard target super easy. He's pretty much shooting the same poundage and arrow/BH combo I shot when I was a teenager. At ten yards that Aluminum arrow drove the thunderhead thru two ribs and stuck 6" into the ground on the other side and the doe never heard it coming

I agree with most on this. 50 pounds is plenty for Texas WT and pigs out to 30 yards or so. As a teenager, I shot an old Martin that was set at 42 pounds and had no problems. Just work on keeping it as quiet as possible.

Squiggy, the reason I would limit the shots to 20 is it sounds like the guy and his son might possibly be newer to bowhunting. If you were always thwacking the target at 30 or more, youd probably be pretty confident enough not to have to ask if the bow was capable at 30. I practice out to 65 (low as my last pin will go). I still like keeping it around 20. I also feel that even though its a quiet setup he has more of a chance of them ducking the arrow the further out the deer is. 30 is by no means beyond the capability of the bow. Careful aim and a little planning and he can take all the game he would like.

That bow will not be deadly in the least bit...

The arrows it's pushing should doe the job though.
                              with proper placement.
