New - How to get involved with 3D?

My wife and I bought bows a couple years ago and enjoy shooting and hunting together. We are amateurs at best. We would like to get more serious and get into competion shooting. Looks like something we would really enjoy doing togther.

I did some searches but was overwelmed with all the leagues, clubs, etc.

    Where does a beginner start?

    Thanks for any help.

Just pick a club or tourney close to you and show up. Tell the folks you a first timers and you will be taken care of.

X2. I haven't been to a shoot that wasn't newbie friendly. I wouldn't worry about any of the leagues or rules in the beginning. Just show up with what you got and they will stick you in the right class. Your class or score don't really matter until you start to take is seriously. If there is more than one club in your area try them all.

The closest club to you will be either east land or cowtown. Might shoot split beam145 a PM asking about cowtown. All around is the member chairman for cowtown, and would have tons of information for you. It is easy, and everyone tries really hard to not intimidate new shooters. The tournament season is over for this year but will be starting again in late January or early February. So keep an eye here or
          Texasasafederation.com for news and information.

I'm close to you all in Weatherford and would be more than happy to help. I know a couple of 3d shooters in Granbury that would be willing to help also. I'll shoot you a pm and with my contact info.

Find any and all clubs in your area. Almost all clubs have monthly shoots. Start there and take it as far as you want....all the way up to pro level competitive shooting.

You can also catch the guys at Archery Club of Young County in Graham. They have a terrific course and are great guys/gals to shoot with. Shoot them a call @ 940-456-3857, they will get you into the woods and shooting.

Of course, as you will find in just about any club......there's a great bunch of folks always willing to help newbies!

I am in the same boat as Whitetail, but I have a couple of questions about different bows. I see some of these bows with amazing stabilizers and things like that, as a beginner do I need these things or can I just use my regular hunting bow? What is a good club for around the Austin Area?

Just take your hunting bow and enjoy shooting. You do not have to have a target bow because we have seperate classes. You will be shooting against people that use the same type of epuipment as you do.
