2024 Bob Lee Memorial Shoot at BCAC

2024 Bob Lee Memorial Shoot at BCAC
    Traditional Recurves and Longbows

We are less than a week out from the shoot and counting down. Here are a few more details, or info for anyone who hasn't shot with us before.

The BCAC range is located at 1715 Louis St, in Bryan TX. You may shoot Saturday and Sunday, both days if you so desire and have the energy for. We will be there and (hopefully) ready to roll by 7am, both days. California start, cards in by 2pm on Sunday, awards to follow shortly. 30 3D McKenzie targets, 12,10,8,5 scoring, center circle counts as 12.

We will award 1st-3rd place in all classes. The men's overall and ladies' overall award will be determined by your top two scores, one of which must be a wood round. Scores from the modern recurve class DO NOT COUNT TOWARD THE OVERALL.

If you place in the top 3 in your class and are unable to stay for awards on Sunday, I will mail your award to you. PLEASE make sure you (legibly) fill out the address section of the entry form if you know you won't be around on Sunday.

This is NOT a TBOT shoot, but we use TBOT(ish) guidelines for classes. Short of an Olympic recurve setup, if you show up with a single string recurve or longbow of some sort, we will have a place for you to shoot. The basics are no sights, no long stabilizers (over 6"), no range finders. If you shoot with an elevated rest (fishing line, sticky, springy, wire, etc. etc.) you will shoot in the modern recurve class. The other classes are to be shot off the shelf. You can shoot as many rounds as you want, as many times as you want. First round in each class counts as score. Fun rounds can be purchased after official cards have been turned in. (This should be common sense, but we've had people ask to shoot fun rounds before their official rounds.)

First round $20, additional rounds $15. Mulligans can be purchased for $1, limit 3 per round.

All proceeds from the entry fees go to a charitable organization or a cause that Bob Lee would have supported, as designated by his family.
The money collected from the mulligans goes into the Emma Hojnacki Scholarship fund. BCAC has been able to provide 4 $500 scholarships to graduating seniors each year for the past several years, thanks to the mulligan funds and contributions from generous donors.

This shoot was intended to honor the memory of a man who had lasting impact on the sport and passion we share, and as a way of letting fellow enthusiasts gather together in one place to shoot, visit, and have fun. We have shooters come from all over, of all skill levels... beginners to names you'll see at the top of national tournament lists.

The weather is looking good for the weekend. Windy on Saturday with a low of 35 and high of 56. Sunday a low of 30 and high of 52. This is TEXAS and you know as well as I do that things could change in 20 minutes, but for now it looks pretty good. Bring your mud boots as a precaution. We had a LOT of rain last weekend and some of the lanes had water and mud. With the wind today and over the next week things should dry out a lot, but it never hurts to be prepared. The course will be set in a yaupon thicket, so wind shouldn't be as much of a factor during shooting.

Course difficulty: We are setting this more towards hunting distance and style shots, not "I took 12 arrows and came back with 4." We'll have some short shots, some longer shots, and a bunch of in-between. Having fun is the idea. For our die-hard 3D shooters, it's early in the year and this should be a nice warmup for more challenging courses to come.

We will have sausage wraps in warmers available for snacking/lunch at the main practice area, with a donation bucket nearby. Bottled water will be out on the range in coolers.
Working...
