for the ASA's sportsmanship award. As a final gesture to a great archer and even better man, I'm sending in my vote for him even though he's no longer with us.
Here's the pm message I sent in requesting consideration for a posthumous award. ALOT of people I've talked to both inside and outside of the traditional community agree with me in saying I'd like to nominate Bruce Hibbard. He recently passed away from cancer. He supported ASA in all things and did his best not only at ASA tournaments (he also won shooter of the year and state champs last year) but also at smithfield archery here in fortworth always trying to help both new and experienced shooters step up their game and taking time from his life to help us with the sport he dearly loved. From kids to a seasoned shooter like myself, there was no one better than Bruce and no one that I could think of that deserved this nomination more. He will be dearly missed by many of us here and as a final salute to Brucie, giving him a posthumous sportsman award would be truly an honor. We will all be taking a shot for Bruce at state on the practice range before walking out to shoot our traditional state champs round this year in Paris for us trad guys attending and anyone else that would like to participate. We might not have 21 guns...be we will have strings drawn and arrows in flight for him. If it's possible to get ahold of his family and present it to them if he wins, that would be even more...
So much that I could say but I'm not good with words. Here's to you Brucie. Not a shoot goes by that I don't ask myself in tough situations what would Bruce suggest.
