I bought an older pearson recurve at a yard sale and I need to know what size string I need. It is marked amo60 but I've read some sites say 3" shorter and others say 4" shorter. I've always used 60x custom strings for my compounds but I'm not sure which of these strings to get www.60xcustomstrings.com/recurve Thanks for any help. I look forward to giving traditional archery a try.

If it is an older bow, chances are the tips are not fast flight rated. I would go with a 56" Dacron string. I prefer a Flemish twist string and those appear to be endless loop strings, but either Flemish twist or endless loop will work just fine. For a Dacron string, I would definitely lean towards the Flemish Twist string because Dacron stretches a lot and you can easily readjust brace height with the Flemish string by just twisting it. Endless loop strings are designed to not have twist like a Flemish string.
You can get a Dacron Flemish Twist string from 3Rivers here:

I make my own and I know my string is the right length after I have torn it apart and cussed at it 2-3 times for it being too short or too long. Making strings is kind of fun, and for about $20 in materials, you can make a bunch of D-50 or D-55 strings. If this is your first traditional bow, be careful. Each one may be cheaper than a compound, but one is never enough.

If he gets a 56" amo string, won't it be way to short?
A 60"AMO recurve string should be 56" actual length.
