    6.5prc ammo for cow elk

Gonna go to Wyoming this year to try for a cow elk. Looking for any recommendations. I have some of the Hornady eldx and match ammo already. Was looking at Norma 143gr bondstrike or maybe some custom ammo from someone. Is it with going the custom route, like unknown munitions or Hendershots?

Any good bonded bullet will be just fine. Most cow elk are 300-400 lbs.

    Stay away from match ammo

Why shoot a different bullet than what you’re already shooting especially since one of then is labeled a hunting bullet. Don’t waste time/money on customs unless you intend to stick with that moving forward.

143 eldx is a good elk round. Others swear the 147 eldm is a great game killing round. Shoot what your rifle likes best

I shot 3 does last year with the 143 eldx and I would say it did ok. They were all dead within 30 yds, but the blood trail on 2 of them was a drop here and there. I have watched a few videos and read that the eldx expand to fast for elk size game.

Right on. My point was unless you plan to change projectiles moving forward I wouldn’t mess with it. You might like the performance out of the eld-m better in that case though.

When I got the Hornady ammo last year, it was all that I could find. Since then ammo is more readily available and looking for what the best on the is. The Norma seems to have good reviews online, just looking for some true life experiences.

The eld-m performs on game period. Ultimately it boils down to shot placement as always. How does the Norma compare price wise to the others?

The Norma factory loads are about the same as the Hornady, around $50-55. If you step up into the store bought custom loads it about double that. If it's worth the extra cost I wouldn't mind spending the extra.

I’m gonna use 140 accubonds this year. Haven’t shot anything with them yet but I’ve had great luck with them in other calibers

I personally know a few guys that use unknown munitions and have nothing but good things to say. They shoot tiny groups too if that matters to you.

I’ve killed several deer(bucks and does) and hogs with the eldx in 6.5prc. Everything that wasn’t DRT didn’t go 30 yards and had massive wound channels and blood trail.

I’m planning on sticking with them when I go elk hunting.

Yuuup. 140 gr. Accubonds would be my choice. Bought my kids 6.5 PRCs last year and loaded up on accubonds.

Rogers sporting goods has 140 accubonds for $50. I think free shipping over $99. I just got in 2 more boxes
