    28 nosler. Let’s discuss

I’ve had a hot rod of a 7 mag for years. Defiance/proof gun. Sending 180 Berger’s at 3075. Bore rider throat and a stiff charge of retumbo.

I’m considering a 28 nosler build with factory ammo. But I don’t believe some of the numbers.

What barrel length, make, twist rate, ammo and speed are you seeing out of yours? And how accurate is it? If you have SDs on the factory ammo I’d love to hear that too!

Factory Xbolt Long Range with factory McMillan stock. Let me know when you pick one up, I should have some partial boxes of factory ammo I’d trade you for testing. Also have a bunch of Nosler brass.

I don’t have any technical info to add, but mine is a dream to shoot. With 175grn accubonds it will make big Sandhills mule deer looks real hard for a place to die.

Matt, I built this 28 Nosler for a left handed guy on a Stiller predator action, 26” proof 8 twist but it’s shooting Berger 195’s. I wouldn’t go any higher than an 8.5 twist even with the 180’s or less than a 26” tube but that’s my humble opinion. It’s been a little while but I think he is getting right around 2950 out of some of the custom reloads of Dallas rounds (don’t know the load data though). Still kicks pretty good even with the brake on it but he wanted a light gun so that’s what he got. It’s a freakin hammer though! Accuracy is pretty solid, definitely a true 1/2 min but the mule kick it gives you can loosen than up a bit and, if I remember correctly, 5 shot strings ranged from 2940-2970 but I don’t know how precise those loads were. I know they don’t turn the necks either so I’m sure there’s some neck tension variance there as well. If you ever come this way I’ll call him so you can shoot it if you wanna.

I hope you have a better source for factory ammo than Noser.

Its **** at best atleast in the 26.

          I'm talking 30" groups at 200.

I was less than impressed as well. I guess you could go with a 28” tube and a hotter load but I still don’t think you’re gonna gain a ton over a bore rider 7 mag.

If you want to shoot factory ammo I would pass on the 28... I don't think any of the nosler offerings are worth a crap. Now if your willing to hand load the berger 195's and ok with shorter barrel life I think it's a descent choice.

I had a 28 Nosler built a couple years ago. I shoot Factory Nosler and Hornady ammo. I have a 26 Proof Barrel. Shoots factory loads with great accuracy, never had a problem finding ammo. Also keep plenty on hand.

Passed on the 28. Gonna keep pumping on the 7 mag.

Sold the action. Bought a 458 Lott. Total squirrel off moment

If you didn't have the 7mag would you still build a 28 nosler?
