    Boyd’s fit issue

This stock is for a SA Savage Axis. Overall fit is great. My issue is the magazine is a PIA to remove and insert. The actual perimeter channel seems to be good, but, the catch/lip of the magazine itself doesn’t want to snap in, unless there is a lot of force. To get the mag out, I need a flat screwdriver or similar to pry it out- Dang near impossible.

Of course, if I back the stock attachment screws back from their suggested 35”# significantly less, the mag locks in and drops like a charm, but, my barreled action is loose and wobbly.

Google showed issues a couple of years ago of things being too loose and mags not staying in, but not too tight. What little I did see were people suggesting sanding the mag catch on the stock?

I contacted Boyd’s, and, all they recommended was backing the screws off, but, again, that’s another issue.

I have 3 different Axis rifles. All 3 mags have been tried, and, all 3 actions have been swapped, all with the same results.

Anybody else have this issue? How did you fix it, or, any ideas?

    Thanks!

Would a spacer washer work? I did that for a boyds/ruger combo

Had the same thing on a Boyd's for my son's Ruger American 243 and used some old cam spacers from Elite bows to give it the little bit of extra space it needed. Problem was solved in just a few minutes.

I'm curious to know. I have an axis 22-250 that I put what looks like same stock on and clip will fall out sometimes after a shot. Haven't looked into much bc it honestly has not been an issue but would like for it to be right. Gun shoots incredibly well. Hate to mess with it much.

Do y’all mean using a spacer between the plastic mag catch and the stock ?

TCF - Have a pic by chance?

Yes. Between the bottom (wood) of the stock and the plastic "tab" that the screw runs through to hold the magazine catch. Just sandwich a spacer in there to give the magazine catch a little more room to work.

Sorry. Sure don't have a Pic.

              Thanks for that feedback ^^^^^

I’ll go that route first and see if it helps.

Same issue on mine. I sanded the flat edge of the plastic that contacts the mag. Took very little sanding.

If I can’t find the appropriate washer, I’ll get my tiny grinder out [emoji3]

Yes. TexasCanes nailed it. If you torque your screws it locks in tight.

I’ve done just this and broken the plastic mag catch. Boyd’s sent me another one, I did the sanding job, works just fine now. Axis 223.

Made a quick pit stop by Lowe’s. Bought a 2 pack of 3/8 nylon washers. I simply trimmed the outside of 1 to fit, and the mag works perfectly now, torqued at 35”#. Snaps in and out as it should now. FYI, and, thanks [emoji106]
