    Off season practice

How many practice in the off season?

    #2
It’s been a busy few weeks for me. I haven’t put on my saddle or climbed in about a month. Obviously, I haven’t practiced from a saddle, but I did shoot two days of R100, 2 days of TAC SA and three days at TAC in TN.

I plan to hop back in the saddle (pun intended) this week and start practicing a bit more.

I shot TAC is SA. Will start shooting from my yard trees this week. For me, I would rather practice climbing and setting up. Shooting is the easy part, but only if you execute the 1st part without alerting every deer in the county or working up a sweat.

Between ASA tournaments and hog hunts I practice on a regular basis in the off season. Prepares me well for WT season

I guess maybe that is what I was referring to more than shooting

I practice year around from the ground. Once I get about a month from opener I will start shooting from the saddle to get back in "saddle shape". Then about 2 weeks out I will try to spend a couple hours in it just hanging and shooting. I'll watch netflix or something in it and shoot some cold shots between episodes. This will help your hips tremendously once season starts and you're sitting 4+hrs a day in one.

I've practiced a couple of times. Not shooting, just trying out new set-ups trying to figure out how to improve my set up.
Plan on doing this ALOT more this year than in years past. Probably actually shoot out of it at least half a dozen times before season gets here.

I shoot every 3D tournament I can make at Axis Archery in Paige. Other than that, I shoot about 50-100 shots a week out of the recurve and 25-40 out of my compound. Also practice pulling and holding the compound back almost every night just in case I get into a stare off with the nanny doe and have to marathon hold at full draw.

I spent 4-5 days/week from January through mid-April practicing some form of one stick climbing, setting up my gear, hanging, moving, etc. to get comfortable with my equipment.

My goal is to spend some time every week refining my process before the fall.

Good advice because EVERYTIME I use my saddle I seem to need to stream-line something. If I ever find myself having to struggle or feel uncomfortable about something then I KNOW there's a better/ more efficient way of doing it. At 63 I don't need to be powering my way thru anything 20 feet off the ground.
