only frontal shot would be the white patch on the neck ...based on prior hits on them critters.

I got lucky and got a cow this afternoon. Luckily I had Glen to show me the ropes on how to clean them on the ground. Colton "solocamaggie" also gave up his afternoon hunt and came and helped us! At the shot her back legs crumpled and her butt hit the ground, but she was able to spin 180 and get running. She made it out into the open about 300 yds out with blood coughing out of her mouth. She stumbled around and laid down in a patch of 2ft high grass with just her head sticking up. After 10 minutes the head laid down and I figured she was done, but still decided to wait an hour before going to her.

At 40 minutes she stands and takes off at a trot, stopping periodically to cough out more blood. She kept it up until she covered over a mile and was out of site. I know these animals are tough, but I sure thought she was done.

                    That stinks… What bullet?

Shake it off, there are plenty more out there!

Knowing how tough these critters are I opted not to shoot the soft lead conical I’d normally use out of this muzzleloader. I took a .45 cal Barnes Buster in 325gr and put it into a .50 cal sabot with 90gr of FFG black powder. It’s not a commercial muzzleloader offering, but since I’m looking for penetration, this seemed the best route I could come up with.

Gemini. Thanks for all the help. These animals with a muzzleloader can eat a bullet. Doug shot where you said in shoulder at 30 yards with a Hornady SST and didn’t exit. But it did the job.

Redemption! Broke the near side shoulder and exited behind the offside.
