On December 19, 2005, the bow hunting community lost a great friend and fellow bow hunter Mike Mireles. Mike managed the La Parra pasture of the Kenedy Ranch. Mike was a daily lurker on Texasbowhunter.com and when he posted it was normally under anonymous. A few of us on board had the opportunity to visit and hunt as Mikes guest on the Kenedy Ranch. In short, The La Parra is a hunter’s paradise and Mikes companionship and great cooking only made evenings by the campfire unforgettable. Mike left behind his young family, wife Sherri and children Michael and Michaela. After his death, one of Mike’s closest friends, Gorge Kostohryz set up a collage scholarship fund for Mike’s children. Texasbowhunter.com member, Breck (Deerslayer) Nolen, proposed the idea of a golf tournament with the proceeds going to the scholarship fund… hence the first Texasbowhunter.com Mike Mireles Memorial. Even today the trophies received by the winning teams are a replica of Mikes famous archery buck nicknamed “Kickers”.
