Hunting Italy & Spain: Requsting Info

We are in the beginning stages of planning a hunting trip to Spain and Italy. Our “bare bones” criteria at this point are that we plan for a two weeks and that there should be a hunting component as well as a cultural component for each country. We’re open to hunting just about anything, but migratory birds are always a preference.

Please throw out anything you think we’ll enjoy doing or seeing; we can cull from there.

    Thanks in advance.

I think NotJose would be the one to talk to. I think he has been over there a couple of times. Good guy.

Looking forward to responses regarding timing/species of bird migrations. I think the cultural hunting differences are super interesting.

            Spain:

Red-legged Partridge supposedly are the "sportiest" of game birds.
Pigeons and Thrush (similar to the American Robin)
Ducks a lot of what we have here plus or minus a few

I'm pretty sure most bird hunting in Spain is done on properties like Joshua Creek, Greystone castle, tule creek, etc. But, the majority of it is done the european style, drive, where they set you up and a guy with a pen of birds behind a barrier just throws them out one by one for you to shoot.

            Italy:

They shoot all sorts of birds. From songbirds and nuisance birds to what we would classify as game birds (cocks, doves, waterfowl)

Hunting season I would imagine coincide with ours since they're in the same hemisphere.

I wondered what was taking you so long…!

I’ve already queued up the results of my search on TBH related to this very subject. Plan to read them over the weekend.

                Safe travels.

I went on a pig hunt in Italy in October at the winery where my sister’s wedding was. Was the first group of people to request a hunt at the wedding venue and as they said “of course it had to be Texans”.

I wasn’t successful but saw fallow and roe deer and had an awesome time with my guide I hunted with. Spent 5 hours together talking back and forth through Google translate and it was a great time. We hunted in the wine country area of Umbria at a private hunting area but I think a lot of hunting is done up northern Italy.

Lots of pheasant and rabbit hunting in the wine country area.

I work for a Spanish company and am fortunate to travel over there a couple times a year. I almost always add on a hunt of some sort. Feel free to PM me as I'd be happy to tell you as much or as little as you'd like. In addition to Spain and Italy, France has some really good and affordable hunts as well.

I’ve hunted in Spain twice and I’m planning a return trip in April. My Spanish outfitter does just every type of hunt there is in Spain I’ve been to Italy but did not hunt, something I regret. I would love to Hunt Chamois and Fallow in Italy in near future. Feel free to reach out, I’d love to help in anyway I can.
