Back to the Coastal Fishing Scene Questions????

I have been away from coastal fishing since 1993 when I retired and moved to Estes Park Colorado. I moved back to Texas in 2000 where I reside in Kerrville now. I want to start fishing the coast again and figure to mostly be tied to the areas from Rockport on south. I would like to have an RV type place that our entire family can spend time at during the year and keep my flats skiff as well. What would you recommend I look for and what areas would you suggest. I am not much on weekend fishing but rather from Sunday afternoon until Thursdays for the majority of the time. I have been looking at real estate prices and I had no idea I needed to be a gazillionaire.

Rockport would be perfect but like you said prices are Crazy post Harvey. If you ok with being a little further inland like the area of Sinton, Portland or even further South around Rio Hindi, and Arroyo City.

I would like to be pretty close to the water. I checked on a new KOA park just around the corner from N. Padre Island and they wanted $2k a month for a camping spot.

Check tropic isles. Its a canal communit. Right behind that Koa. Expensive but not a rockport.

If you'll entertain the mid coast you might look at Sargent. Still some respectful homes that won't break the bank.

I lived and fished Rockport area for about 18 months. I enjoyed it but much prefer the area I’m fishing now around Portland/Ingleside. Also the prices are a lot better than Rockport. Holler if you need someone to drive you around the water or land.

Much obliged, brother. I want to teach my grown kids and grandkids how much fun I had from high school on up until my 40's how much fun saltwater fishing can be.

Check Rivera/Loyola beach area, Aransas pass too. Rockport and Padre Island are not very reasonably priced.

My son just returned from Port A this afternoon and said he found me a lot on Mustang Island for $1.1 million. Told him at that price I need to buy two.

Lol, for that price I’d sell you my house about 5 min from the boat ramp here on the island. There are still some decent prices here, just have to dig around a little. Taxes are a mother though. House comes with pool, boat, and beach utv.

We keep a RV in aransas pass. There are several RV parks around that are reasonably priced. The mid-coast is a busy place especially on summer weekends. There is better trout fishing south below JFK or POC/Matagorda I fish from a small scooter and focus on catching resfish in uber skinny water. Take Glen up on his offer- he knows the area well.

Hold on, how old were you when you retired?! And what did you do for a living?

That sounds good for me. I would fish during the week mostly. Thanks for the heads up. I have never really focused on redfish and would love to target them as my primary.
