    Texas Water Safari 2023

Well, 51 days until we'll be sitting in Spring Lake in San Marcos waiting for the gun to go off to embark on another go at the 260 mile Texas Water Safari. I figured I'd get the thread going to see who on the green screen was participating this year and of those to see if anybody would be willing to share anything about recent paddles. Our team name is Magic School Bus and our boat number is 8588.

My brother, dad, and I entered for the first time last year and finished in 86:22. I've got two new people in the boat this year, but we're hoping to beat that by a real margin. We'll be racing the same Minnesota 3 that we did last year, but have finally got it trimmed the right way and have picked up some speed. That said, we'll keep praying for rain.

Finally, the tragedy of Concho Man's passing during this event is at the front of mind when we go and tackle this thing. Rest in peace!

Awesome. Good luck and keep us posted. It was a bucket list item for me about 10 years ago - finished in 84 hours in a drought year with no flow to the river.

Great experience and I'm really glad to have done it once and finished ... Have no desire to do it again!

You guys have a safe and fun race. My Son in law Ian and his 15 yr old daughter Addie will be racing as well.
Thank you Marshall for remembering Brad “Concho Man”.

I've been wanting to do this in an OC-1 but not sure how realistic that is?

        RIP Concho man, pinkies out

No way I could pull one of those off. Good luck to you, and stay safe.

Just go for it. It’s the hardest way to do it, but once you do it, everything else will be easy. Lol

When we worked on our trim we had to move a seat. Your sister modified our sprayskirt for us quick, it was the first time I'd met her in person. I bet they have a strong finish!

Only one of these under my belt, but I'd bet it's doable. Not sure how that would do in low water years like last year/this year. Would need to make sure it wasn't a pure carbon layup. I bet you could crush the bay in one of those!!

a friend of mine did it in a 2man canoe and crushed it. To be fair she's a former olympic K2 and K4 paddler and like 12x Molokai to Oahu champion so I'm no where in the league she is as a paddler. They won the mixed division in 2019 at 45 hours 7 minutes. I just texted her and she said no way she'd do it again but it was awesome

You learn so much about yourself and life in general from paddling this race. I completed my first one at 21 years old and sister was 19.
Last time I paddled it was around 2011 or 2012.
I hope to do it again sometime with my boy so he to can have such a life experience.
