Well garden is coming along nicely... Next week will be a big week for planting. Meanwhile, the early brassicas are doing really well in the bags. We have been cutting lettuces and Chinese cabbage (Bok Choy) almost daily. Starting to get little broccoli and cauliflower "heads" and the cabbages are starting to wrap tightly to begin forming heads... Have to admit, very early on, we were attacked within a day or two after moving the transplants from the greenhouse to the bags outdoors by bugs... Wife applied Sevin Dust and we got ahead of them it appears ... so far...

Got the strawberries started. Meant to do this last Fall, but never got it done... Started with bare root plant crowns. Never tried those before and I'll have to admit, I didn't have much confidence in them every making it. We have been pleasantly surprised at how well they have taken off!! Started with a raised bed, then covered it in wheat straw, then planted through it... Within 2-3 days, those chutes came to life! Little leaves are popping up through the straw and taking off!!

Planted double rows of beans and "English peas" beside the drip tape and 2 of the 3 varieties have come up. Once they get going a little more vigorously, I'll put up my trellis (cattle panels). We also put a few lettuce plants in the ground and a row of beets just to give them a try. Both are doing surprisingly well... They have responded well to the drip tape light watering more often as opposed to getting everything soggy wet, then cutting the water off until everything dries up...

          I saw that^^^

I’m closer to Austin than San Saba., unfortunately, but the fact it is getting that cold made me pause on my planting.

I’m thinking seriously about getting our squash and zucchini started in their grow bags ahead of this weather that’s coming Thursday/Friday. Also debating with myself about getting the peas/corn in the ground too. It’s supposed to rain an inch or two by Friday. If I don’t plant before the rain, I’m afraid it may get too wet to plant and will delay me further. The weather is not supposed to get cold enuf to frost.
Anybody else have thoughts on this weather and planting?

I was sort of thinking that if it did frost, my seeds wouldn’t be up yet so it wouldn’t hurt anything. But I’m a lot closer to the coast than you are and our frost risk is very low. It’s just rain and wet ground that I’m thinking about here.

Planted my corn last Friday. Mama Lobo got her long beans up about an inch high now so. Maters, peppers and eggplant going good so far so Hopin no more cold!

I typically plant Spring Break(this week) since that's generally when I have time and it's convenient. I usually have to cover a couple of times planting this early. I'm waiting until next week.....

Was a little behind on my seeds this year but I still have carrots that I am waiting to pull so it will all work out. Tomatoes are already 5 inches in a little over a week.

I've had good luck with Kentucky Wonder Beans and Blue Lake Bush Beans.

This is what I normally do during SB…but thinking I might hold the plants inside. I’ll just focus on getting the soil ready.

Think y’all are Right that we might have another frost

Well, we planted 8 rows of top pick purple hull peas and 11 rows of sweet corn yesterday. Today I put up my "crow excluder system"... It turned out great. Nothin' bigger'n a humming bird gonna get to that corn!!

Also put in about 40 more bags of squash and zucchini. Ordered 60 more 10 gallon bags yesterday. They'll be here tomorrow. Those are for my peppers and a few maters...

Lesson we learned last year was that 5 gallon bags for the most part are too small for aggressive vegetable plants like squash/zucchini and for sure no night shades, so we went with all 10 gallon bags this year and we reduced the number of plants/bag... I have the 75 or so bags we have going now on a drip watering system that is working great so far. Everything we've put in the bags has just taken off whether direct seed or transplants... We are cutting lettuce, Bok Choy, Spinich daily now. Cabbages are starting to tighten up to form heads...

Still probably at least 2 weeks away from being able to get the peppers and maters in their bags... Sure wish I wouldn't have fried that first batch of 3 trays, but ... live and learn I guess. The do-over is doing better every day...

Mike, wife says you need another row!
We put about a hunert okrey seeds on the heat mat today... Gonna try to kick them in high gear... Got the mat set at 95 degrees to get 'em up fast... Once they put on their first pair of "true leaves", I'll start shooting the fertilizer to 'em... Got three rows planned ( 40 feet long each)...

How did everyone's gardens fare in the storms? Ours was pretty wind-blown, but I don't think any real damage occurred... I was actually pretty surprised the greenhouse was intact this morning when I went out to check on things...
I had one area in the in-ground garden that had standing water on the edge. I hooked up a sump pump and quickly pumped the standing water out. If we can get a few days without any further rain, I think we'll be off and growing nicely. Timing of the rain was near perfect though a bit more than we actually needed. We got a little over 1.5" total. Once the sun comes out, we should see corn and peas start to pop out of the ground...
