[quote=sasqy;16762181]Anyone taking Doxycycline for their trip ?
    Here it’s kind of a blanket policy.[/quote

I got notified Limpopo had a malaria warning , doxycycline seems like the best prophylactic
I am more concerned about getting tick fever again, or bird fever, had both and neither are a cake walk

When taking guns are you supposed to take them to TSA ahead of time?

Just got back from Limpopo, asked the ranch owner and PH if they ever take anything for malaria both laughed and said no. They did say it was coming in from the Mozambique side since there is no money to combat it in the government budget. Also, people migrating to SA are bringing it as well. I pretreated with Pemethrin on pants and boots no ticks to deal with. Took some 40% Deet spray as well and left it there. Animals have a lot of ticks so check yourself after pictures or loading in the truck. Killed one big Puffadder and saw where multiple snakes crossed the roads. I did wear my Justin snake boots even though they made some fun of me but I felt better.

I take a 2 week script of it with us but don't actively take it unless we encounter an infection or bad stomach bug.

Took the malaria prevention drug once and it caused side effects so never took it again. Limpopo isn't a bad malaria area anyway. Other areas of Africa it might be wise to take it.

What do y'all suggest for calling home? Get a African SIM card? Just use WhatsApp?

WhatsApp, as long as you have Wi-Fi.

Pack your clothes in your luggage. Then unpack and repack HALF of the clothes you planned on taking. Depending on your outfitter, they washed our clothes every night. No need for camo except for pictures.

Aim closer to the shoulder than you think. Gets expensive if you shoot NA shots!

I would agree with this, but they are calling for a chance of snow next week. Nights are pretty cold right now. Buddy got back a couple weeks ago and said frost on the trucks most mornings.

We used WhatsApp. The lodge should have Wifi.

Got back from Northern Cape yesterday, mornings were chilly and warming up in the afternoon. No bugs at all....hunting was out of this world. Depending on outfitter clothes were washed everyday, so pack light.

We had decent cell service last summer outside of the time they were load shedding. We messaged and called with our cell phones like normal.

Got the last range session in today with my hunting ammo. Taking the .300wby with 180gn sciroccos and my sporterized A303 .30-06 with 180 gn Nosler Partitions. My dad built me this rifle when I was in high school. He recently passed so I want to take something with it on Father’s Day when I am there. 3 days and a wake up. Can’t wait.

                              It’s starting to seem real.
I heard it’s the start of winter, when I get there.
