Had one removed from my lower abdomen a few years ago. It started as a tick bite that never healed. At about 1/4" diameter it was diagnosed as a basal cell carcinoma so they took a 3" diameter chunk of skin off. Must have gotten it all since it never came back. It was a very painful little sore before they took it off. the stiches still itch from time to time.
A timely thread as my Dad was recently diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma and is scheduled for Mohs surgery on Tuesday, as well as a thorough skin check to follow.
I’ll admit, I’m a little more nervous about his outcome after reading this thread. His doc feels fairly confident that his cancer has not metasticized but I still don’t understand the basis for her optimism. I’m sure I’ll learn more after his surgery.
On a positive note, his doctor is a new, young doctor fresh out of training at MD Anderson with a residency from the Cleveland Clinic under her belt. She’s new to our derm practice from Houston and is excited to be in Austin. She has her learner’s permit but is looking forward to getting her driver’s license in the next couple of months so her mother will no longer have to drive her to work.
for us old guys a dermatologist is you best friend trust me
I’m using this right now! My dr. Called it Chemo cream! Both sides of my face look like I did a face dive over the forks of a motorcycle on a gravel road!
2 months ago my dr. Did a body check for cancer and found quite a bit of it. Out of all of the spots on my back she found what looked like an 1/8” freckle- biopsied and Malignant melanoma- she said she was going to take a little chunk out about the size of a quarter, that quarter turned into one of those little 4” plastic footballs! She removed another melanoma off of my Nose but I have a big nose so not much lost there. We’ve all been warned on here so many times but most of us never do anything about it! I can tell you right now , in addition to the photo’s above it has my total attention. This crap can get serious yesterday! My check ups are on 3 month intervals and I’ll make every appointment.
Prayers for everyone above and for everyone who is fighting the battle !

The good news it is not painful in any way - the spots on you go away pretty quickly and what I have found from doing this over the years is your skin on your face and hands ends up looking way better than it did before the treatment - simple and easy way to protect yourself from a nasty surgery

Is this a standard protocol for most people who have had incidents of skin cancer?
OK, that's it. After seeing the pictures on this thread I am making an appointment to get checked out. I went to a dermatologist about 3-4 years ago and she didn't find anything to be concerned about, and told me to come back in a year. I pretty much lived outdoors, especially in my younger years, and I rarely wore sunscreen. I've got a few spots on my face that I have wondered about, time to get on an annual checkup schedule.

Then you and I are using the same thing only differnt ! The sides of my face and on my ears felt like they were on fire ! My last day for that part of my head was yesterday morning and I felt relief by noon. If it will make My face look better then I’ll order a fi-gallon bucket full

My former Father-in-law had to use that cream about 5-6 years ago and he said it hurt!
