31" on trout for me. Caught 3 over 25 on the same day in Baffin. Yes, on croaker. Since I quit hauling meat 27 is top

Headed to camp right now, I'm sure we'll try to fish a little at some point but I ain't fighting crowds if it's a circus.

The wind is keeping the trout safe from me. Went this morning and burned a quart of shrimp on mangroves. Then went and caught bay carp. Kept 2 trying something different. Cut the gills with tin snips as soon as I caught them. Fillets were white instead of grey and very small blood line.

I agree with putting um back quick. My little boga is great for a quick weight check and release!

I have caught a 6.7lb 29" summer string bean of a trout last year and have caught 4 between 27"/28.5" with the largest being just over 7.5lbs but to me a big trout is 8lbs or more. I'm old school my best is 7.5lb.

I consider both weight and length. There are a good number of 28 and 29" trout caught every year. Not near so many that are an honest 30" and far fewer that will hit an honest 10#. So each thing is a benchmark of sorts.

I know a guy that catches a lot of 30 inch trout. He goes at night when the surf is right. He slack lines big live baits (10 inch mullet or skip jack). He said if I do it three nights I’ll break the 30 inch. I’ve caught 3 fish that broke 29 but never touched 30. The slack lining isn’t really my style of fishing but I may go try it

Now that is impressive. I have done a handful of full moon trips in the bay and its really unique and a tad bit spooky fishing in the dark and landing your first few fish. I have never fished the surf at night. Would love to learn about the conditions he looks for. Thats awesome.

I caught a 27.5" trout on a whiting head with a 20/0 circle hook sticking up through it's head, looked like I rigged it for bait but it was still flopping. My PB is 28.5" on live shrimp way back in the day and lots of 27-28 fish on lures more recently. I don't fish for size though, prefer to fish for the cooler. We eat a LOT of fish.

Caught a few before the skipjack moved in and ruined everything.

Higher up the coast it’s harder to find those big girls. I’ve cracked 26 inches 4 times (2 in one day), but have never caught a 27.

Headed offshore out of Matagorda Harbor next weekend, will be taking the boat to try again in the bay Sunday. Will try spoil banks and drainages again, I guess.

Miket- if your trout fishing they are still on sand shorelines. Just fish where the grass stops. Don’t be afraid to fish off the shoreline a ways
