Ran out to surfside jetties and then went out and hit the buyous out to the rig. Not a single thing. There was so many menhaden in the water you could walk on their backs. Islands of dead menhaden everywhere we went. Was no reason for anything to take our bait. I heard this happens once every 5-6 years i guess i just never hit it out there during a menhaden explosion/killoff.

Finally got away from unpacking on Saturday and was able to put the boat in the water down here for the first ‘real’ trip out. Found a few dozen reds first thing that morning and was able to sight cast a couple and missed an easy third opportunity with an operator caused equipment malfunction.

After that I went for a cruise and saw a few schools of fish chasing bait, stopped on one and caught fish for a solid hour. It was a mix of redfish, trout and of course trash fish had to join in the fun. Once the major bite ended at 9 it was nothing but dinks for the next 3-4 hours, but feel I learned quite a bit around what the trout were relating to.

Sunday morning I was able to get in about an hour of sight casting right next to the shore before the wind was ripping again, but ended up with 4 reds then made the grueling 600 yd drive back to the house lol.

Wind is supposed to blow all weekend, but will try to get out for a bit if I can get more crap unpacked before now and then.

Crappy conditions, lots of just under sized reds, got one keeper. The gulls helped out spotting the schools. All sight casted, tailing reds. Can’t get pics to upload

Got out Saturday evening and fished a dead tide. Got (5) and misses that many. They were acting funny, I had to throw at em a lot. They were on the grass lines but not moving much on a slack tide. A natural colored paddle tail is all they wanted.

All you boat owners, Just an FYI, remember to check those prop hubs when doing maintenance or inspecting your vessels.
Brought the Mowdy back to Austin to do a 300 HR PM to it. Changed engine & lower unit oils, fuel filters & water separator. Removed anodes to inspect / replace.
After filling the lower unit I remembered to put it in gear & grab the prop to check for slop, sure enough it was sloppy. Removed prop & spacer to also find some braided line wrapped around the shaft near the shaft seal. Got lucky on this one. Went by Nettles Props & loaded the prop with a new style Power Tech hub.
Kinda scary to think last Friday I had it 20 miles offshore. That woulda been a bad time to totally strip out that hub.

Just worked 11 straight, before that, was off the weekend and fished with the wife, worked 7 straight before that. I’m just about worn out, but having withdrawals!

Road trip down to the valley to visit in laws, but come Monday, even though I work, I’m going fishing!

Glad y’all have been grinding them out!
