Why do we lie to our kids?

Honest reply: how do you guys get them out of it? We are at the point
that we want to be done. Daughter just turned 10. We have hinted and tried to get her to say he isn’t real. And nothing. She’s iffy.
My son caught mommy tooth fairy when he was 9 or 10. He already had a good idea.
I think our daughter does but don’t want to mess it up for her. Christmas mornings are some of the best days.
It’s getting hard with gifts Especially with my son his Christmas gifts start adding up when we are buying new hockey gear and baseball gear through the year. But still trying to maintain my daughters belief.
On the other side she is so smart she could just be playing us.

Op, I think you mean well in your thinking, however your thinking is cloudy, and you seem to have something else going on. There's holes in your story, in my opinion, and you 're not just battling conviction over telling lies to your children about Santa Claus... I feel like there's other lies you're guilty of, and you're taking it out on Santa to make yourself feel better about what's Really going on. I don't mean any disrespect, but that's my unprofessional diagnosis.

To all the posters who lie to their children - Do you label any presents or all they all from Santa?
The amount of instant defense on this topic may mean a lot of people deep down know they're lying. Have to bash the OP and dog pile so they feel better. Otherwise why not let the guy have his own opinions on raising his kids?
Would parents who don't do Halloween get the same reaction?

It’s the OP’s opinion that if you pretend like there’s a Santa Claus then you’re lying to your kids. He said what he said. It is personal.
If he didn’t want the pushback he shouldn’t have posted. The OP will be fine though. He doesn’t need anyone defending him. I respect his opinion and others as well.

Won't matter one way or another. Most kids over 5 know it's not real, because there is always that one kid who likes to tell all the other kids he's not real. Hell, I'd pretend to believe in Santa if I got presents....
