We recovered Talen’s arrow about 30 yards from the shot.
Maybe 3” of penetration. No sign of the hog he shot last night.
We figured out that he had his arrow sitting between his fall away and his riser this morning.
Before daylight setup and not double-checking equipment taught him a valuable lesson today. Lol
Bad luck for both boys for the AM hunt. We are regrouping and going after them again this evening.
19 Days to Kill - Live!!! New Mexico, East Tx, North Tx, Illinois
We are in.
Talen is in the same blind he hunted yesterday. A millennium tripod tucked in some oaks.
Had turkeys all over the place when we dropped him off.
Bryce & I are back in the same Maverick blind we hunted this morning. Targets are either 8 we saw this morning or the big 6 that has been frequenting this feeder.
It’s HOT but we have a few windows open and getting a steady SW breeze thru the blind.
Feeders fire off at 7:00. Hopefully we’ll have pics to share by dark-thirty.
Well people, I feel like we are super lucky and super snake bit.
We were having a phenomenal hunt. 8 bucks and 7 does. We had bucks working scrapes. Does on their hind feet fighting. Bucks squaring off with each other. Ears back & hair bristled up.
Each time a new deer would arrive the whole pen would let us know.
Bryce and I are talking about all the deer we are seeing and notice 2 bucks throw their head up as everything else walks to the opposite side of the feed pen. We know something is about to come out for the brush just by the mood changes of every deer.
I look out the window to see if I can locate anything in the brush and catch movement of a left main beam. 1,2,3,4,5 points. “SHOOTER 10!” I tell Bryce.
This man of a buck hops in the feed pen and walks broadside at 25 yards. I know immediately I need to get confirmation from the manager because this buck hasn’t been on camera that I know of.
I immediately text, describe the deer. Confirm that he isn’t a broken up 3 yr old 10 in the area and get the go ahead text 2 min after he has reached the corn.
I tell Bryce, “Kill him” as I’m reaching for the window to open. Before I can even get my hand on it, every deer in the pen spooks and runs to 50-60 yards.
I’m sick! 1- Because I know I didn’t spook the deer. 2-The biggest free range deer Buck Bryce has ever had in bow range, just ran off after being super killable for 2 minutes.
We could still see deer in the brush and after 5 min every started back our way. At 6:58 the buck was at 30 yards facing us. No big deal. We are about to get our opportunity. Except the feeder goes off at 7:00. Yep! Everything spooked again and it was too much for them. I was able to get some footage of him as he walked out of sight.
I could have easily told Bryce to kill him *** soon as he stopped @ 25 yards but being this is our first time to hunt this ranch, I didn’t want to wear out our welcome by not confirming on a buck of that size.
I know it’s hunting. But I’m sick for my son. He had his first opportunity at a no brainer P&Y deer and it slipped right out of his hands.
Good side of it is, we had a great hunt together, saw lots of deer, and we’re hunting the same stand in the morning with the same wind.
Wish Bryce luck tomorrow and pray for my blood pressure please.
