    Why didn’t my chili freeze??

On the second day of the winter apocalypse, when I realized my ice boxes would soon be warmer than the ambient temperature outside, I began to transfer all my food stores to ice chests or other exposed flat surfaces on my back deck where temps hot up no
Higher than 32 during the day and nights were down into the 20s ir lower.

Fortunately, all the wild game in my freezee stayed frozen (thanks, Yeti), but theee were a number of things that did not. Several
Things I had sitting out on the table ( red pic) never froze; the chili
    I
Made as well as frozen concentrated juice and my homemade pesto.

My I enchest full of I e stayed frozen, but all the bones I’d save for my homemade broth were not.

Can anyone help me understand why

probably b/c there was not enough surface area to freeze the entire containers. This is how I freeze and store soups, chili, stews, and gumbo.

I agree. If I’m processing myself, flat ziplocks with air pressed out is my go to. Same for soups and stews like CB says. Flat. Easy to store, quick to freeze and defrost.

I put a pot of chili out on porch when it was 5 degrees overnight. It didn’t freeze.

The good think about freezing in ziplocks, you can warm it up like soups vide in boiling or hot water. No mess, refreeze if needed.

Maybe they were destined to be chilly dogs.

I put a 12 pack of beer on the back porch and the beer froze.

Might be due to the salt in the items lowering the freezing point.

Maybe it was too hot (spicy).
