Sitting on a stool watching a beautful red orange eastern sky in Fannin County. The shooting has begun.

Me and my boy went out yesterday evening and shot a few arrows from several of our tree stands. Mostly at horse apples. He's doing real good. It was just a great evening to be out. No wind, great temp, and we could hear fawns calling the does all around.

Sitting here enjoying the first cup of coffee and watching the sun come up. Wearing a flowable ice pack on my knee, oh the advances of modern medicine.

Morning all ! Just checkin' in. J-bone, it looks like you may have gotten some rain this morning. Quite a few T-showers cropping up down south.

Sure does! South Texas is covered in scattered showers!

Frank Billingsly seems to think those are extremely lite showers, like hundereths of an inch as opposed to tenths of an inch. But if that land is droughted out then anything will help.

Good morning all, I'll have to learn how to post a picture here one day and show you all our Taj Mahal 5 x 5 bowstands under construction here shortly. Free wolmanized material is nice.

Caught sight of my nine point mulie this morning early.....he was walking away at 50 yards and didn't offer me a better opportunity..... but I did see a very nice eight that looks to be heavier bodied than the nine. This will be an interesting dilemma. The season is young and I'm determined to be patient. My strategy at this point is to hunt morning and evening but only take an evening shot if a super buck shows up I can't pass up. Tracking deer down the mountain at night with the known mountain lion problem here is not real appealing to me. Having all day and daylight to handle all the tracking and dirty work does appeal to me. Besides, my better half told me to be patient.....she's not going to want to head home for a while.
So.....no pics yet but I like my chances.....

I need to go finish at the lease and now ive got to wait at least a week.

I learned that if I shoot enough shells I can actually kill a limit. I was done by 8:20

Forgot to add: A Mojo and some dekes on the fence work VERY well for dove

Tried to do some confined area stuff in the helicopter today, and all of you danged ole dove hunters were usin up all of the good fields! Had to run all the way up North East of Calaveras Lake to find an opening that didn't have any drunks on a tailgate with loaded guns.

Seriously, I never realized how many people actually dove hunt until I got up in the air today. It was truly staggering to witness that many hunters in every field.

Not worth a hoot, Dennis. We had to scramble to find a place since we dont have a deer lease; decided to try and stay close to home for the opener. Birds were not out in droves. Nobody limited. But it was fun.

Been scanning pics for mom for hours now. Some really funny stuff...everything from me, at a very young age, imitating my PawPaw (who I thought hung the moon) pretending to (or at least I hope pretending to) smoke a pipe , to some gosh awful WILD patchwork pants that someone had the bright idea to put me in. Eating a bowl of cereal and bananas....that'll tide me over till I come in from hunting and get into the biscuits and sausage. Good chance of rain here in the PM....I better get him down early! Have a great day all!
