There are muzzleloader kills approaching 1000 yards now, I'm sure that's old news for 6.5 (or many other rifle calibers).

I'm baffled. Shooting an animal from a distance that requires a lot of skill, practice, and the right equipment unethical?

Keep in mind there are lots outside of our circle who don't see the merits of shooting animals trained to stand still over bait.

I watched a show years ago showing Amish deer farmers handling their deer after darting. They were using very good drugs to induce sleep and revive. They made it look so easy. It is not easy without access to the same drugs. Thats IMO how they got so far ahead, no one could forsee the damage deer farming was going to cause. I long for a lowfence Mexico buck thats never seen a protien feeder or a HF but thats just me

        i am a hunter.....

unless it is prairie dogs, then it is just target practice with some eradication side effects...... sure at one point in my life i wanted to see how far i could kill a deer,,, now it's how close can i get,,, twice i have been close enough to touch a wild deer by hand,,,, yep, i am a hunter and i like it that way
Hate to break it to you, but you are no more of a hunter than the fellow that glasses mountains and shoots a deer at several hundred yards. Shoot, I have couple does that follow me to the stand and jump in the feed pen while filling the feeder. I prefer bow hunting but I'm not going to judge someone else as a hunter. I hunted out west and that was tougher with a gun than bow hunting at home.

Does not really matter to me how far of a shot a guy takes, but there needs to be some common sense applied. If your caliber is only good up to 600 yards, why would you shoot at something 1200 yards. Lobbing shots at an animal and praying for a hit, dont count for much.
