    My first deer!

Title says it all! Yesterday morning I was able to FINALLY take my very first deer. I started hunting 6 seasons ago while in college at Western Michigan University. I moved to Dallas about three years ago. This is my third season here in TX. I have my fair share of misses, and a couple of lost deer as well! I've experienced the lows of hunting all too much! Yesterday was finally my day!

Larry and DR730 invited me out to their lease to hunt yesterday morning. I was out of the house at 3:15 A.M yesterday to meet them in Decatur by 4:30. I don't recall the exact time I was settled in the stand, but it was well before daylight. The morning was quite cool and a little windy. For some reason, I just new something was going to happen. At first light, I had spotted a small doe to my left. She ended up hopping a fenceline and working her way behind me where she caught the wind and started blowing at me. I still stayed confident I would see something up close. About 30 minutes later a VERY SMALL bobcat came walking through. It was about the size of a housecat. It gave me a few very easy shots, but decided not to as I would have nothing to do with it. What would I do with a 5lb bobcat. I ended up standing up and getting it's attention so I could get it out of there. I wasn't srazy about having a cat in my area. I didn't see anything for a while and was, honestly, losing hope. The sun was getting a little warmer and the wind was picking up. The turkeys had quieted down. I finally grabbed my cell phone and started playing some games to pass time. I was playing for about ten minutes when I loo up and see two does and a fawn at 25 yards. My heart started pounding. I slowly grabbed my bow, but could not stand up. They were eating some corn that I had spread on the ground! However, as I mentioned, the wind was blowing and swirling in the area I was at. The two does new something was up. The bigger of the two kept looking up at me, but never actually saw me. Still, I could not stand up. They started woring their way to the right and heading back into the woods. One doe was out of site while the larger of the two was still in my sites. She turned her head over her left shoulder and I was able to stand up. As I stood she looked back up at me, but still didn't now I was there. She, again, glanced over her other shoulder where I finally drew back as she stepped forward and paused just long enought for me to release the arrow send it flying over a small pine tree, hitting her just behind the shoulder from 18 yards. I knew it was a good hit as I heard that hard thump. She turned into the woods and I could hear her make a small circle around me and then crash. I radioed Larry, but the radios weren't acting well because of the cold. I finally got him on the radio about an hour later. He and DR730 came over to go get a look. We followed a good blood trail for about 70 yards where we found her piled up under a tree! I finally had my day! Neither Larry nor Daniel knew it was my first deer until I told them. They shared a lot of excitement with me! It was a great morning having someone there to celebrate with. Here are some pics of my first deer. She's just a doe, but I could care less! A huge thanks to Larry and Daniel for bringing me out to your place yesterday.

    Here are the pics!
