I have been using Underarmour's 3.0 base layer's and I feel like they have been a great product. I would just like some insight from guys that have other base layer's they like, particularly guys that might have the merino wool from Kuiu.

What base layer do you use?

I bought First Lite stuff last year. Its great. Like most will say, its a little pricey but you get what you pay for. Very comfortable. No itch. Comes in different weights depending on your type of weather you are going to use it for. You can use it as a base layer or as your hunting shirt alone. I think you'll like it.

I've got UA 1.0's and the 3.0's. I've actually worn both together on some sub freezing days with success. Hunted in <20 degree days with this method combined with good boots. cabela's wooltimate top and bottom and a good head cover. Felt like I finally beat back the evil that is the cold.
I'm interested in the merino kuiu or the Cabelas' thermal zone line too. Hear great thibgs about kuiu.

Just depends...
on how active I plan on being. If hiking and sitting to glass I usually wear the Cabelas lightweight stuff. If it's really cold and I;m sitting on stand I wear the Polar weight fleece stuff from Cabelas. I've not had any issues with either sets. I'm pretty hot-natured and I sweat A LOT so I don't wear the polar weight stuff too much. Nothing I hate worse than walking to my stand a getting all sweaty.
I don't have any experience with the merino wool stuff, but I've been curious about it as well. I'd be concerned about the texture.

First lite fan here. I do want some of the zip off kuiu bottoms but I'm hoping first lite will come out with some so I can support them instead.
The merino wool is really the only thing I have any desire to wear anymore. It's plenty soft. It also doesn't get you as hot when you are hiking and doesn't stink like synthetics do.Last edited by Felix40; 09-26-2016, 09:07 AM.
