    Flounder Gigs

The flounder gigging thread got me wondering what everyone's gigs look like. I'm wanting a couple more and just looking for some ideas for diy or heck might even want to buy a few.
Right now I have a couple 2 prong all thread and one 3 prong frog gig.
    Edit: I'm wade gigging

Bow fishing arrow cut the nock off and epoxy into the end of a dow Rod the length of your choice or an old golf driver shaft with bow fishing point epoxy on the end.

My favorite for gigging out of the boat. Stick em across the gills.

Here's what I'm using at the moment:
The one on the left is conduit and to heavy for a long night wading, the middle one is lightweight but the prongs are short. The one on the right is pretty much perfect but could stand to be lighter. I put the reflective tape on it after I stuck another one in the ground then left with out it.

I made something similar to this out of a busted arrow and put my stringer in where the nock goes. Never ended up using it but I liked the concept but needed it to be longer. Just stick them and slide up and then onto stringer.

Look into Flounder Light Saber. Mr. Pauling makes great lights and gigs. His gigs are single prong but seem effective. Im super happy with his lights though. I put together my own gigs using a bamboo pole and a custom 3 prong stainless steel head. I have barbs on mine to help with putting my fish on the stringer. We love the setup.

Thanks I'll check them out, I was wondering what yours looked like since I couldn't quite tell in your pics. I've been making my own lights so I'm covered on that end.

I have never been flounder gigging. What keeps the fish from getting off when you try to pick it up?

That barbs or threads. IMO all thread wins over barbs, if gigged in the "meat" it can actually take an effort to remove the fish from the gig

The barbs or all thread. You don't necessarily have to have barbs you can use regular steel rod and then slide your hand underneath the fish but it's much easier with the barbs.

I like that set up Ray, the bamboo makes them pretty light?

Yes sir. They are pretty light and very strong. The barbs are not hard to work with. They add security when you have a fish gigged and while putting a stringer on them. Once on the string you put your foot along the gig and pull up quickly. They come right off with ease.

Poco's gigs are the shiznit. Light, strong, and will definitely hold a good fish. Personally seen them in action. Been wanting one for a few years now, This next year I will have me a few. That bamboo is the way to go in my opinion.
