The law says that if the animal is
tagged, branded, banded, or marked in another conspicuous manner that can be read or identified from a long distance
then you must report it so the sheriff can attempt to notify the owner.

If it's not obviously branded/tagged, you need only the green light from the landowner.

                Exactly.

They make great long range targets if you are in to that sort of thing. We were target shooting at a friend's ranch one day when his goat herd stepped out. He said 2 of the younger males needed to be culled before they started destroying stuff.

Since it was the landowner's 65th birthday and they were 650 yards out, I dialed in the rifle and gave him the shot. The 175 smk put it down cleanly.

The landowner checked with all the neighbors. Most have seen them but all agreed they are wild and want them gone.

I saw them yesterday at about 400 yards walking away. They crossed the county road onto the neighbors place. No chance for a shot without shooting across public road and onto neighbors property.

The boys are out there this morning planning to put a stalk on if they spot them.

Those are Spanish goat. Crossed with random other goats. Called by many names depending on if they are at an auction barn , tax exemption or hunting ranch.

Goats are great to eat. Bleed the meat for a week. Then grind up with about 20 fat. Makes great hamburger or sausage. We eat all the time.

No reason just to kill if your not going to eat.

I'm not hungry enough to start killing goats and I certainly don't want to kill someones livestock.

                              Thanks for the replies.
