It's amazing what a difference a properly fit and tuned bow feels like.
Duh! Bought an Arena 34 off a TBHer, and it is so much nicer than my previous bow I just figured it was the way it was supposed to be. Wasn't noticeably smoother to draw than my old 10yr old bow, but was much quieter. I was actually happy with it as is. I took it to Bow Zone today to have them check it out and set it up for me. And that's when I discovered what I'd been missing.
First they check that the d-loop and whisker biscuit were set right. All good. Then they checked my draw length. They thought the bow looked like it was about a half inch off. They got that fixed, then the valley all but disappeared. Something was definitely off. Took it back to the press and the limb stops were way out of whack. Fixed those, checked the timing, and whoa nelly! A completely different bow! It was set at 62lbs but felt like 70 before the adjustment. After they got it set it feels like 50. Then they got the peep adjusted for me and now the whole thing feels natural.
Many thanks to Kay and all the other folks at Bow Zone that helped me out today.
